D.C. United, Ryan Nelsen, Marcelo Gallardo

*Santino Quaranta, who had major foot surgery last fall, is participating in regular workouts with D.C. United at training camp in Florida. However, still no sign of alleged trialist Jermaine Taylor, a central defender from Jamaica's national team. United (0-1-2 in preseason with no goals scored) will continue sessions in Bradenton all week before completing this phase of camp with scrimmages against the U.S. under-17 squad and Florida Gulf Coast University on Friday.

*Former DCU/MLS star Ryan Nelsen injured his knee for Blackburn over the weekend and, despite initial fears that he might miss New Zealand's World Cup campaign, it now appears he will be out no more than eight weeks.

*Speaking of ex-DCUers, watch Marcelo Gallardo's free kick equalizer for River Plate in a 1-1 tie with Arsenal de Sarandi (the second goal in the clip):

Gallardo disliked United as much as I disliked him.

Thats the second free kick goal I have seen from him since his return to River. At least he can still do that. I'm happy he is in Argentina.

Isn't River having the worst couple of seasons in years?

Happy for the guy. Its honorable, he went back to the team that started it all for him because they asked him as they needed help. He killed his contract stopping him from earning probably 3-4 times what he is earning now.

With that said though, nice FK, and he is playing decent.

On another note, we need a coach like leo astrada here at DC, Hairy chest sticking out, button shirt down to the 4th button with gold chain hanging out to the chest!

Can we get Gallardo back? ;)

All the free kicks he had during his year up here combined didn't even come CLOSE to the power he had with the above.

ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzero.

I still have that giant magnet/schedule where Gallardo was pretending to like DCU, Moreno needed a haircut, and there was no sponsor on the front of our blank jerseys. I hate it, but where will I store my CVS coupons without it?!?

Gallardo disliked DCU becuase he thought Soehn was a nugget who doubted Gallardo's health issues. Soehn never made any attempt to communicate with him, even through DCU's other spanish-speaking players and staff.

Wish we had Gallaro now...with our gaping midfield gaps. How can we score without support for our forwards? Take out your wallets Chang and Payne.

The goal Gallardo scored vs. RSL is one of the best I have seen at RFK.

lemovs1,

Signing somebody for the sake of signing somebody should not be done. Thats why Gallardo didn't pan out and why we shouldn't bring him.

back XD

malatestiano: You are correct, sir.

I'd rather see Ryan Nelsen back @RFK than Marcelo Gallardo...

Yeah, we don't need a player like Gallardo. Our midfield is world-class as it is, led by the likes of Santino "Backpass" Quaranta, and fair-to-middling Chris Pontius, yeah boy, we are set to storm the league.
