Four of the first six are home. ... Because of four straight on the road and the World Cup break, United won't have a home match between early June and mid-July. ... The visit to the Red Bulls' new stadium will come on the eve of the World Cup final. ... The only match at Philadelphia will be played at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL Eagles, because the new venue won't be ready until summer. ... Thirteen of the 15 home matches are on the weekend. ... Curt Onalfo's first game is against his former employer, Kansas City. ... United's only nonleague competition is the U.S. Open Cup, which begins in the summer. ... Only the national TV games are finalized. The local schedule (Comcast SportsNet) won't be set for quite some time.

The first eight games look like they are ripe for the taking. Outside of Chicago, not really even competition (depending on how long it takes Philly to gel).

Don't forget Sat, April 10th as well...

"(Comcast SportsNet) won't be set for quite some time."

...and it won't be changed due to hockey or awful preseason football games for quite some time.

Oh look at you, handsome Balanced Schedule with World Cup Break!

Posted by: Kev29 | February 3, 2010 2:29 PM | Report abuse

Why the hell do they schedule middle-of-the-afternoon games in August?

Why the hell do they schedule middle-of-the-day games period?

Posted by: BDR232 | February 3, 2010 2:34 PM | Report abuse

The eve of the Cup final? Not sure if that will affect my plan to make the trip to Harrison.

I guess Beckham will be back in time for the game at RFK -- national audience for his first game back? Won't be in the broiling sun, so I guess it'll be another torrential downpour? Or will that be the day that an earth tremor measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale brings RFK crashing down to the ground?

Nowak comes back to town on my b-day weekend. This post sent me to DC United's site, to see which games will be in my "A" series. Site still says TBA. In internet-speak, I believe that would be "fail".

Posted by: fischy | February 3, 2010 2:35 PM | Report abuse

Oh well. Good news is that I'll I should be around to make the trip up to RBA, the lame news is that I need to be in Seattle either the day before or on the day that the Flounders come back to RFK...
I'm gonna be the best man at my buddies wedding that weekend, and was hoping to at least have a chance to take in a match at Qwest. I just checked their schedule and SSFC doesn't have any league matches scheduled during the time I will be there...

I guess I can hold out hope that there will be an Open Cup match or perhaps CCL going on in Seattle during that time?

Well, maybe the wedding will get called off...;)

Dang, I had one date, one, that I didn't want the home Galaxy game on. B*stards.

By the way -- BTB is also laying down on the job about DCU U17s. The blog reported on their first 2 matches in South Africa (only team representing North American youth): One win, one loss. No word since. Fail.

Posted by: fischy | February 3, 2010 2:41 PM | Report abuse

Are all those kick offs EST? Hoping that I'll be able to kick off the bachelor party watching United/Sounders in a bar full of dudes I pissed off on the internet last year!

Posted by: DadRyan | February 3, 2010 2:42 PM | Report abuse

If the USA gets out of the group stage, will there be any further tweaking of the schedule? (A real cynic could regard the schedule as a commentary on the USA's prospects in South Africa. But of course, we don't have any real cynics in this crowd.)

Also, are there any further details on the planned Limarzi online presence?

Sounds like a good soccer weekend to me! I'll either get a train home that night or just stay and watch the final in NYC.

Posted by: Kev29 | February 3, 2010 2:43 PM | Report abuse

That would be fun to just stay in NY and take in the final up there. Really does sound like a fun weekend. Might just have to China Town bus it with my bicycle...

Or you could find a soccer-friendly pub along the return route (say, in Philly) that you always wanted to check out and hop off the train for a few hours.

BDR232,

Exact opposite question. Why are there only two day games, one of which I'll be in CA for a wedding during? I'd love to take my daughter to games and get her hooked on soccer early, but most of the games don't start until she's in bed. May be a unique problem for me, but my wife is a photographer, works most weekend nights, therefore I am severely limited in the number of games I can attend in person. I understand that it's always been this way, but never understood why all the night games.

2pm Sunday start is also convenient for fans who want to come down from Philly - and there will be tons.

UnitedD: re "The first eight games look like they are ripe for the taking."

By that do you mean DCU has to be heavily favored to win?

If so, how do you figure? We couldn't beat anybody last season, and our team is, at best, only marginally better now than it was then.

DC United just Facebooked that United have picked up Adam Cristman from the Kansas City Wizards in exchange for an international roster spot.

Good news for some Verizon FIOS subscribers. Comcast Sportsnet+ which hasn't been available in the past on the majority of Maryland FIOS systems (Only PG and Montgomery had it) is now available on channel 334 for those systems. No more conflicts to worry about. However, from my perspective there could be a lot of channel flipping come Stanley Cup playoff time.

It's an interesting idea -- maybe the TV audience would be bigger Sunday night, especially for the casual fans who will be excited to see Beckham's return.

Philly is playing eight of its first ten matches on the road, before the first home match in late June in Chester vs. FC Seattle. Reminds me of the Galaxy Beckham tour from a couple of years ago and another MLS team waiting to move into a shiny new stadium.

If they are not careful, their season could be over by the time they debut in Chester, which would be a shame.

Google Calendar lets you choose your favorite teams and add their schedules to your calendar automaticamente. I just checked and the DC games are already on my calendar. Oh brave new world that has such technology in it.

I think those thinking Beckham is going to be here on July 18 are a little optimistic. He'll play in Milan til May, then join the England team. The first knockout game for England is June 26, if they win that one, they play again on July 2. Even if they lose, there's no way that guy isn't taking a month off (for "injury" if he has too) and not playing again until August.
