Man City, AC Milan, Americans abroad, RFK

*An update on the proposed Manchester City friendly against Club America at Georgia Dome in Atlanta on July 28: The date is set. The arena is reserved. The U.S. Soccer Federation, which oversees international matches played in the States, has granted approval. Club America will be there. City's participation, though, will hinge on its finish in the Premier League and subsequent European obligations. A replacement club (I couldn't find out the identity) is in place in case City has to withdraw from the Atlanta match.

*As part of its North American tour that will include a stop in Washington to play D.C. United on May 26, AC Milan will face the second-division Montreal Impact on June 2 at Olympic Stadium. The Impact will also host Fiorentina.

*In Denmark, former Real Salt Lake forward Yura Movsisyan scored twice in the first half of Randers' 3-1 victory over Silkeborg, ex-Chicago Fire forward Chris Rolfe had the only goal in Aalborg's 1-0 win over Odense and U.S. national team midfielder Benny Feilhaber went 90 minutes in Aarhus' 1-0 loss at Midtjylland. In Norway, probable World Cup-bound defender Clarence Goodson played his usual 90 in Start's 1-1 tie with Odd Grenland.

*Planning to take Metro to RFK Stadium this weekend (or anywhere else in the area)? You've been warned by Dr. Gridlock.

What are the chances that DCU looks into (or has already looked into) Dave Van Den Bergh? Can he play centrally (I pretty much just remember seeing him on the wings)?

Posted by: elopingcamel | April 14, 2010 4:46 PM | Report abuse

Also, how is it that DCU really has nothing in the works to bring in help before the transfer deadline ends? I'm not even hearing reports of failed attempts. It's like they are asleep over there in the FO.

Posted by: elopingcamel | April 14, 2010 4:48 PM | Report abuse

@elopingcamel - who should they bring in? how do you know they don't have something the works? maybe they are waiting for after the world cup, when there will be better options available.

you mentioned DVdB, but hes in that free agent limbo like Luci. he might not want to come to DC, he might not want what DC is willing to pay, and DC might not want to pay Dallas what they want for him.

Sounds like they're having a good ole time in London N17 this evening.

It'd so much easier this season for DCU fans to just start taking Prozac with a little Xanax to help numb the pain.

United has clearly taken on a 1-2 season long project and that means id'ing young players and bringing them up. Plus, from what I have seen of the team so far, they're way more than one player away from competing.

Getting Namoff, Simms and Burch.

Guys,

This team is rebuilding not retooling. I wouldn't be surprised if their rebuilding plans coincide with their stadium plans. I very seriously doubt a DP is coming this year. This is a year to enjoy the games not win trophies.

Good to see the Americans (if you include Yura, who may be a man in search of a country) doing well in the Danish League.

Edu leaves game due to unknown injury -- could just be a cramp.

DC United = Montreal Expos?

Posted by: OWNTF | April 14, 2010 5:36 PM | Report abuse

Well, one DP that isn't coming to DC seems to be Pires. I'm still trying to get a handle on the reports at MLSsoccer -- do these constitute real reporting, rumors, or press releases that look like reporting? I would think that MLS reporters would have enough access that they're not reporting anything inaccurate. Greg Lalas seems to be confirming that Pires is headed to Philly...and that El Pescadito is stuck in Puebla because the coach has disappeared.

Posted by: fischy | April 14, 2010 5:36 PM | Report abuse

I guess that is my frustration, VTUnited. I don't know that there is nothing in the works, but I also don't know that there is. Fact is, I know nothing. I don't even have a hint at something. Given the current level of play that we are seeing, that is frustrating.

Granted, if DCU makes some awesome acquisitions right after the WC that come in and turn this ship around, then I will likely VERY quickly forget my current frustrations and applaud the FO for the brilliance. For right now... man, it is disheartening.

Chris Rolfe scored? I want him starting up top with Freddy Adu in the World Cup. Bench Altidore!!!!!!!

Fischy, I too am wondering about the report about Pires. Thanks for a little info.

If you all thought my first comment was serious. Shame on you.

Goff --

Can we also get a Lot 8 forecast in addition to the weather for this weekend?

Posted by: strago | April 14, 2010 6:41 PM | Report abuse

DCU signed Jordan Graye. A former Academy product. He's got some potential -- loves to go forward. Assuming that Burch, Quinn, Wicks and Namoff are currently deemed off-roster because of injuries...we have 3 roster slots to fill. Even if they're making room for Wicks and Namoff (and their returns are still uncertain), we're still one short. Does that make any sense? Is it going to be Yates or someone else? Also, I'd try to fill Wicks and Namoff's slot, for now. They can always cut someone loose later.

played in a pick up game during lunch today. I was easily the worst player on the pitch. it will be a while before I start ragging on casey, findley, et al again.

An additional side note on Goodson; he picked up his third MOTM award in six matches this season in Norway.

Wow, now I'm envious of the Dynamo AND a high school football team

""Just in case you forgot how important high school football is in Texas, the residents of Allen will soon have a $59.6 million stadium that will leave no doubt.

Next month in the booming north Dallas suburb, ground will be broken on a state-of-the-art, 18,000-seat facility that will feature two decks, a video scoreboard, four concession stands and 12 restrooms. It is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012."

Obviously, because the only real supporters groups are @ RFK, and we know goals only as something the other team scores....

Pretty impressive but I like a touch of skill and class in the buildup in addition to a tremedous blast.
