D.C. United news & notes

Some notes from D.C. United training today at the RFK Stadium auxiliary field ahead of Saturday night's match against visiting Chivas USA:

* Midfielder Brandon Barklage tore the ACL in his left knee and also had a partial tear to the meniscus, the team said. Barklage likely will undergo surgery in the next week. He tore the ACL in his right knee last July in a U.S. Open Cup game.

"It's a devastating injury," United Coach Curt Onalfo said. "I don't think there's anything else he could have hurt inside his knee. Basically it's everything."

Should the team put Barklage on injured reserve (it has not been announced yet), United would have an open roster spot. It would not provide salary cap relief.

* El Salvador international Manuel Salazar, who played for Firpo in the Salvadoran league, trained with United today. General Manager Dave Kasper said it was not an official trial.

* Forward Luciano Emilio, who scored Wednesday against AC Milan, is questionable for Saturday's game with a left hip flexor injury. Onalfo said it will be a game-time decision.

"Luci's lethal and finishes his chances," Onalfo said. "And he certainly did a good job of that against AC Milan."

* Chris Pontius (hamstring), Santino Quaranta (staph infection) and Bill Hamid (shoulder) are probable.

Dude, I feel terrible about Brandon. Literally sick to my stomach about it.
Get better brother and don't forget that MLS is going to have PLENTY of slots for players looking to play professionally if you continue to pursue your career. If you can come back from the first one, you can surely come back from a second one.

Good luck to BB in surgery and rehab. That's a sh***y double whammy.

...this Luci experiment is going well.

Hope BB can bounce back better than ever. And I certainly hope DCU finds someone competent to fill his slot. Let's not lose the mojo from Winsday.

OT

Look, I know there are a lot of soccer events going on, but there is a US national team that played yesterday and played today, and yet our own federation can't be bothered to post results on its website. For those who care, our u-18s lost to Norway yesterday 1-0. They played Romania earlier today. Meanwhile ussoccer.com has a gatorade ad tarted up as a news release as today's posting on the youth national team blog. Perhaps I could understand them not having posted today's score yet, but yesterday's?

sorry, rant over. back to your normal programming....

So two extra tickets for the game in Philly just fell into my hands...
No, we don't have any room in our vehicle but if any more spontaneous Insider Loyalists are feeling like driving up I'll be willing to let these babies go for dirt cheap! I've exhausted all other avenues for trying to find people who wanna roll!

Holler!

Its gonna be hilarious

@SexyOffender, we've got tickets in American Outlaws section.
Section 130.
We're headed up early to tailgate. Still trying to figure out where the Screaming Eagles busses will be landing, hoping to park near DC United Heads so we can see some familiar faces.

@Norteno, email sent!

US v. Brazil, Aug 10 at the Meadowlands.

the question is, why? our euro players will be in training with club teams and our mls players will be pushing for playoffs. I understand the desire for a quick payday, but this seems awfully short-sighted.

You can always tell it's a serious injury when the opposing team are the ones frantically gesturing for the medical staff. Good luck, Brandon.

DadRyan,

a friend of mine told me the supporters groups are tailgating in Lot M in Philly tomorrow. I'm going up on one of the buses and the e-mail from the organizers didn't mention which lot we'd be going to.

Thanks for the lead Joel. If you see some dudes with a ridiculously large Kelty sunshade and a Hawaii State flag draped on something grilling over a tiny gas grill you can probably put money on it being Ol' DR and my boy troy6... Stop by and say hey!

Vamos Estados Unidos!

More disengenuity from BB Kasper. Could he perhaps explain what an unofficial try-out would be?

Really. This guy is either the stupidest man on the planet or he thinks all us of are.

Setting aside the foregoing, if DCU is looking at another Salvadorean, it is obviously to boost the market for ticket sales at Bailey's Cross Roads.

Hurray for more salary cap we aren't using. Wait, don't smart franchises actually use the salary cap?

And why is it that every gets injured but Castillo?
