Saturday's games in England are the promotion playoffs. It will be interesting to see if the clubs with storied tradition can recapture their status.

Thx,

Jay!

PUMAS!

This hardly seems fair for Wigan: they play against Chelsea and Man U at the same time!

Let's see -- Wizards' season is over. Capitals' season is over. So...what's CSN's excuse for not airing a broadcast of Saturday night's DC United game?

Is there some late-night college lacrosse going on?

Posted by: fischy | May 6, 2010 10:42 PM | Report abuse

OK -- I've done the research...

9:00pm Big 12 Showcase Women's Sports Special '09-'10

Jeezus...Can't United get better ratings than this? I don't mean to be sexist or give offense, but will this show get more than even 100 viewers?

9:30pm UEFA Champions League Magazine Show

I see. Better to show a soccer magazine show that will review games that were played more than a wek ago, and preview a game that won't be played for two weeks...

10:00pm Geico SportsNite (:30)

Maybe they'll provide a halftime update? After all,l the only local pro teams playing will be the baseball team(s), the Mystics, the Freedom and United.

10:30pm Washington Post Live Weekend (repeat)

Well, that won't cost them anything to re-air....

Where's the Cardiff City game?! I was really excited for the Championship promotion playoffs and I can't watch the first leg. BITTER. Is Summers open at 7 am? Is anyone contrived a way to turn Guiness into a breakfast drink?

Posted by: daandre3 | May 7, 2010 7:05 AM | Report abuse

Yeah...drink it as is.

KP and Will always preach about how much the team's supporters mean to them, how great the fans are, etc.

If they are in the market to do the right thing, which I doubt they are - the market they shop in is expedience - can they not offer an reason why this game isn't on TV?

We'll understand; we're smart people; just let us know. If it turns out that it's a decsion that Comcast made, and DCU couldn't help it, well, let us know and we'll vent at them. Knowledge is power; help us understand.

DCU moving to Baltimore makes additional sense on a TV exposure level. It is sure that any deal to move here would result in DCU, now BU, being on MASN. There is a heck of lot more broadcast space on that network (it has two channels) than it gets on CSN.

What happened to CSN2?

What happened to CSNY?

What about listing Man City - West Ham on ESPN2 HD at 11am on Sunday for those of us cheap bastards who refuse to pay for pub food and drink just to watch a match?

What is FSC showing Saturday before 7 pm?

8:15am Sunday on ESPN3.

Fischy:

I don't blame Comcast anymore. I blame the team. About 4 years ago when they announced that great partnership with Comcast and 4 months later games were getting bumped off of TV for Redskins preseason, you had to know the deal was in trouble. So instead of finding alternative local broadcast partners, or a consortium of partners (Comcast, MASN, UHF channels, local Univision, Telefutura, etc) the team just sits back and ignores the fact that some people just can't make it downtown for every game. And god help you if you want to listen to the game on the radio while you are at work. The failure of the DC United front office to offer an attractive media package is just another sign that the team isn't long for the area. Sad to say I'll be able to drive home from work Saturday night and listen to the Buffalo NLL team on the radio, live and in English. But I won't be able to find United on the dial.

Thx,

Jay!

For those of us who will be at the 'Plex between 7 and 9 tomorrow evening, are there any good nearby places that have DK? Would Glory Days be a possibility?

Posted by: universityandpark | May 7, 2010 2:41 PM | Report abuse

I just learned that the Germantown Glory Days closed several weeks ago. Do Freedom fans (or other MoCo residents) out there have any other ideas?

Posted by: universityandpark | May 7, 2010 3:21 PM | Report abuse

ESPN2 will show Real Madrid - Bilbao @ 3 p.m.
It was confirmed on the http://sports.espn.go.com/espntv/espnGuide .

I live right across the street from the unleased space that used to be Glory Days. As far as I know, they never had Direct Kick. And as far as I know the other sports bars in the area, (Hard Times, Greene Turtle and Baileys) all do not have Direct Kick, or at least a phonecall to these fine establishments might confirm. Tony Massenburg and James Lloyd are opening (have opened) the Tony & James restaurant in Kentlands in the old Zodiac Grill space, but from what I gather it's not a sports bar.

Thx,

Jay!

The 'new meadowlands' is another example of building an arena which has no roof and puts the spectators at the mercy of the elements. Profits rule and Main Street is never a consideration. And don't forget the $9-buck beer and a 5-buck dog to go with the $20-buck parking fee...rip-off!!!!! Forgot to mention that the field is astro-surf which for soccer events is converted to sod.
