Matchday: USA-Australia

Greetings from Ruimsig Stadium in Roodepoort, a tidy venue in Johannesburg's pleasant western suburbs. It's another heavenly day in Gauteng province, nary a cloud in sight, for the Americans' final test before next Saturday's World Cup opener against England.

The vuvuzela brigade has arrived. So has USSF President Sunil Gulati. And several English reporters, who trekked from England's camp two hours away in Rustenburg to get a first-hand look at the U.S. team.

Kickoff: 8:41 a.m. ET.
TV: ESPN2, Galavision.
Announcers: Martin Tyler, John Harkes (Rob Stone sideline).

Back in Washington, Post colleague Paul Tenorio will conduct a live in-game chat here on the Insider.

On a side note, injury has befallen another African player.

The USA lineup to come.....
USA: Howard; Cherundolo, Goodson, DeMerit, Bocanegra; Donovan, Clark, Bradley, Dempsey; Findley, Buddle.

Onyewu's absence from the starting lineup means he will enter the World Cup having not played 90 minutes since the Honduras qualifier in October.

Your pregame, in-game and postgame observations are warmly welcome.

Buddle and Findley! Wow, and Clark.

Hope it doesn't go all pear shaped...

Looks like the SoccerPlex...Keep up the good work Goff and GO USA!

Let's make this an injury-free outing! No more than a half for Donovan, Dempsey, Bocanegra and Bradley.

USA! USA! There's been a lot of injuries lately. I like Findley and Buddle up top - let's see what they can do. Gooch not having played a full 90 is not comforting. Will he start the opener with England I wonder, or if he starts I imagine he'll need to be subbed?

OK. With the injuries, France losing to China, a Mexico announcer/commentator saying they'll play for the tie but likely lose to SA, Slovenia beating up on the Kiwis .... it's time to adjust some of my picks! I hate it when money is on the line and you have to pick with your head and not your heart! (But it's all gravy if you win the $$$!)

Likely to be the same starting lineup that BB selects for England match. I'd prefer Edu over Clark (and of course a healthy Altidore instead of Buddle) but let's see how they do.

Ha ha. With no other audio on the ESPN3 feed, those vuvulezas sound like there's a swarm of giant bees attacking the stadium. That's going to be fantastic for the next month.

Do you think ESPN will try to cut that out of the audio feed after RSA/MEX no doubt drowns out the in-stadium announcers?

Posted by: MattinSilverSpring | June 5, 2010 8:32 AM | Report abuse

wow, Buddle with a goal already

Posted by: emanon13 | June 5, 2010 8:45 AM | Report abuse

Edson Buddle is hotter than the sun right now.

well, there's some video evidence for those who prefer Ching over Findley on the roster

KC Wizards want their field back. Wow. Is that thing narrow.

Start Buddle against England.

so are the mics that they are showing the announcers using at the start of the 2nd half what they're going to use to try and drown out some of the plastic horn noise? It's a throwback looking mic - not what you usually see anymore.

The pitch looks terrible.

This whole match has kind of gone pear shaped.
