Interesting -- four of the eight matches pits fellow confederation members vs. one another. With two other matches -- ARG vs MEX and USA vs GHA -- comprising replays of 2006 World Cup matches, there should be no surprises in the Round of 16 -- the teams will be very familiar with one another.

Sunday's two matches have to be considered the star draws of this round. All I know is I am basically living in bars this weekend!

Every so often, working at 4 am pays off. Monday and Tuesday, when I'm off right around noon, will be pretty good payoffs.

USA A-OK

"When my family arrived in this country four months ago, we spoke no
English and had no money in our pockets. Today, we own a nationwide chain of wheel-balancing centers. Where else but in America, or possibly Canada, could our family find such opportunity? That's why,
whenever I see the Stars and Stripes, I will always be reminded of that wonderful word: flag!"

- Trong Van Din

Can't wait to watch the game from Dogfish in G'Burg tomorrow.

On Jay Demerit's interview on Studio 90, they asked him what Argy Bargy means. His answer: Me.

I note that of the teams in this world cup which are bidding to host one of the next ones, only Australia missed out on the round of 16. The U.S., England, South Korea, Japan, Spain, and Portugal all advanced. I have to think that winning can only help a bids chances, if just by increasing the visibility of the tournament in these country.

Anybody heard what time a potential USA quarterfinal would be? FIFA website doesn't list one.

By the way, Sneezer or whatever's lame song shouldn't represent this team . .

This is my nomination:

The DropKick Murphys, A Few Good Men:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmRx3JlE0Rw

It's time we stood up for ourselves so get up off your knees.
We'll shake off our detractors and attain our hopes and dreams
and if we fall prey to in-fighting, we're never gonna win,
so put aside your differences, sing loud, sing proud

We won't listen to their stories or be waylaid by their lies
it's a dream that's still attainable for kids like you and I
So if we all stand together singing one defiant song
our voice will reach the heavens, so sing with all your heart

[Chorus:]
Join us in a song
we shall rise and sing stand up and be counted sing a song for liberty join us in this song together we shall sing rise up and be counted sing it loud, sing it proud

We've been brutalized and crucified, the brunt of their attacks,
is corruption not their trademark and compassion what they lack?
If we can realize our common goals,
the end of which is plain united and now stronger, their loss is now our gain!

Less than half of the European nations (6 of 13) advanced to the knockout round.

And with the remaining six European teams facing each other, only three European teams will reach the quarterfinals.

Interesting. Maybe. :)

If we're doing songs that should "embody" the US team than I nominate, literally, the best song written in the past 40000 years:

Spiral Out, Keep Going.....USA.

@Cerealman,

UEFA's lucky they're playing each other and not CONMEBOL teams. otherwise even fewer would advance.
