Bob Bradley update, U.S. soccer team news
*Bob Bradley will meet with the U.S. Soccer Federation "sometime this week" to discuss his future as national team coach, a USSF spokesman said Monday. The location was not disclosed, but the Los Angeles area, where Bradley lives, seems likely.
Bradley's contract does not expire until Dec. 31, but both Bradley and USSF President Sunil Gulati have suggested that a decision whether to renew the partnership would be made soon. Bradley's representatives were in contact with English club Fulham this summer and have been in touch with Aston Villa, which is searching for a replacement after Martin O'Neill's abrupt departure two weeks ago.
*The proposed U.S. friendly against Colombia on Oct. 12, first reported here three weeks ago, is close to being finalized. Neither the New York area nor Florida, locations that would draw large numbers of Colombian supporters, are no longer under serious consideration because of venue issues. So don't be surprised if the weekday match ends up at a medium-sized MLS stadium (Columbus?) geared toward a U.S. team crowd. The big ticket-revenue game is Oct. 9 against Poland at Soldier Field in Chicago, which has a huge Polish-American population. A Nov. 17 friendly overseas is also in the preliminary stages.
*The U.S. women's team, gearing up for 2011 World Cup qualifying this fall, will play China on Oct. 2 in Kennesaw, Ga. (home to the WPS's Atlanta Beat) and Oct. 6 at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. (home to MLS's Philadelphia Union). CONCACAF qualifying begins Oct. 28 in Mexico.

So they are still under consideration? #grammarpolice

MLS reports that a Swiss paper links a winger named Carlos Varela (not the Cuban musician) is now linked with a possible move to DCU. Seems like the team's Swiss connection must still be working. At least, this time, they've locked on to someone who has spent most of his career in the top-flight of Swiss football.

There cheese has holes in it!
I guess I just read the same article as Fischy:

And for those who read German here's a link from that article:

Fifa.com actually said the game would be in New York today...
Hey DaddyRy, could be a great excuse to come check out America's finest womens facility, and the capital of the south. You drive now, it's only 13 hours. ;)

I heard FIFA may be wrong (again). Would have been a nice game to send to a less common city (ATL, StL) if they had stadiums the right size.

Philly or Columbus would be fine places. I wouldn't mind a RFK venue though.

I was thinking the same thing. And I have relatives who live a few miles from the Electric Chair--oops, PPL Park.
The Independence are also a lock to host a WPS postseason game in late September. However, that will take place in West Chester, 18 miles away. (I have relatives in that area, too.)
Bompastor and Co. won on the road in Iceland, taking their group in Euro WWC qualifying. They have to survive the next stage, which winnows the eight group winners to four (with a fifth team going to a play-in against a CONCACAF opponent).

ha ha Jacob. My wife is always talking about "taking me back to Georgia", but I gotta admit that a simple 2-3 hours up to Stankadelphia would be slightly less painless...;)

Gonna board the midnight train

Actually, it leaves DC around six or seven, arrives around 7 or 8 am, so I guess it counts as a midnight train.

DadRyan, I'd watch my step if I were you. "Taking ___ back to Georgia" is a reference to the book/film Deliverance...

Oh god, please let's not rehire bob Bradley again. It would be torture to see his ugly face and hear his boring personality. Not to mention his horrible game strategies and substitutions. Can't we ever get rid of this monster. It's like Dracula coming back from the dead. Have to drive a stake through his heart. Bob, take the Aston Villa job, please! Free Sunil and US soccer so that they can hire a better coach like Jurgen Klinsmann to take US to the next level.
