Friday kickaround: Beasley's next club, D.C. United updates, Moreno tribute, U.S. Open Cup final venues, Americans abroad

*American midfielder DaMarcus Beasley's move to Hanover in the Bundesliga encountered late complications this week but should be finalized soon, the Insider has learned. Beasley, who has been training independently in Miami, has not commented on his next club, other than to write on Twitter: "Guess it's time to start learning a new language." (He has never played for a German club.)

*With the U.S. Open Cup semifinal on the horizon and a disappointing league campaign winding down, D.C. United will manage its roster and lineup a little more carefully than usual ahead of Sunday's MLS match at Chivas USA (10 p.m. ET, ESPN2). Defender Marc Burch and forward Pablo Hernandez did not make the trip; Burch needs to rest his surgically repaired foot ahead of Wednesday's match and Hernandez could use some time off, interim coach Ben Olsen said. Chris Pontius (hamstring) and Carey Talley (groin) were cleared to travel, but Juan Manuel Pena (quadriceps) stayed behind to continue working on fitness.

[UPDATE] The buzz around RFK is that forward Danny Allsopp, who scored twice last weekend, has been sidelined by illness and won't be available. Awaiting confirmation. CONFIRMED: He will not play Sunday.

*United trialist Carlos Varela, a Spanish outside midfielder via the Swiss league, has shown well in training and is scheduled to remain with the club next week before a decision about a contract offer is made. The MLS roster deadline is Sept. 15. "He looks good. He combines well, he has good pace," Olsen said.

*Chivas USA has scheduled a pregame tribute to United's Jaime Moreno on Sunday. The club will present him a plaque and show a highlight video on the stadium screen.

*Through a bidding process, the USSF has determined the venue scenarios for the Open Cup final. United would host the Oct. 6 match only if it defeats the visiting Columbus Crew on Wednesday and Chivas USA wins at Seattle. With a semifinal victory, the Sounders would host regardless of the opponent on Oct. 5 at Qwest Field. A Chivas-Columbus final would send the final to Home Depot Center on Oct. 12.

For Americans abroad and Europa League updates.....

*Americans abroad:
Thursday
F Jozy Altidore 72 minutes in Villarreal's 2-1 victory at Dnepr
(Villarreal advanced in Europa League on 7-1 aggregate)

GK Brad Guzan 90 in Aston Villa's 3-2 loss to Rapid Vienna
GK Brad Friedel, D Eric Lichaj were in 18, but didn't play
(Rapid advanced in Europa on 4-3 aggregate)
GK Dom Cervi in 18, didn't play in Celtic's 4-0 loss at Utrecht
(Utrecht advanced in Europa on 4-2 aggregate)

Friday
D Frank Simek and Carlisle at Colchester

*Americans in Europa League:
Altidore and Villarreal vs. Brugge, Dinamo Zagreb, PAOK Salonica
MF Sacha Kljestan and Anderlecht vs. Zenit St. Petersburg, AEK Athens, Hajduk Split

Very classy of Chivas - they just moved up the list of clubs I don't hate.

Last year Chivas fans made a "Keep United In DC" sign. They're fine by me.

A little bizarre, I guess, but classy nonetheless. Thanks Goats.

Big ups, Chivas.

Is Carlos Llamosa still on staff over at Chivas?? Perhaps that has something to do with it.

Chivas USA still employs Yamith Cuesta; I'm not sure if any of this feel-good stuff cancels out that abomination.

Shame not to have Hernandez in SoCal; I really noticed at the PU match just how much ground that guy covers--very impressive athlete. But CUSA has some major injury problems too, so DCU should give them a run for their money regardless.

I hope none of you are Nats fans, too...

Given how this season has gone, clearly United should give a priority to the Cup game and not Sunday's game. I was wondering how MLS would take it if a lot of our regulars (if I can use that term for this team) sat out Sunday and then played next Wednesday. Other professional leagues don't like teams to take league games lightly, so why would MLS be any different. Maybe Danny Allsop's "illness" is the way for United to rest players for an MLS game in favor of a USOC game. Or am I being too cynical?

Nope, not at Natinal fan at all.

Hey...saw a post in English stating Andy Najar told folks in Honduras he will trying to transfer to a European club. Can you look into this and see if it is true? Would be a blow to DCU. Thanks!

Found this...that he isn't decided yet on Honduras or USA, and won't play for Honduras' u20 team.

Want to believe otherwise but players rested or not;

Chivas 2 United 0
Columbus 2 United 0

and whoever said Q can't play the #10 role is spot on.

well aren't you just a little ray of sunshine Ruthie...
I'll be up late watching on Sunday and at the match on Wednesday regardless.
Vamos United!

Danny Allsopp will be sidelined with GOAL FEVER.

Posted by: DWE4 | August 27, 2010 2:30 PM | Report abuse

I don't remember who it was but somebody earlier this season was comparing Strasburg's motion to Kerry Wood's and inferred an injury may be on the horizon. Major kudos whomever said that.

Allsopp probably has "goat flu". I'll bet he is just fine Monday morning.

Here's hoping Jaime has one more highlight left for Chivas -- live and in person.

Class on their part to do the video.

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson has confirmed that Jemal Johnson has been restored to the first team squad and could return to action against Swindon this weekend.

The American-born forward recently returned from a trial period in the United States with MLS sides DC United and Kansas City Wizards, having been offered the chance to find a new club.

read the article and it states that Najar is still undecided to which national team to play. But the coach of the sub20 will make offers for him to play with Honduras. And it does mention he is going to be in Europe after the season is over to train. But nothing was mentioned to where.

Allsop has US Open Cup fever. Nice of the Goats.

@ Reignking
I don't like the Nats but I do LOVE them and the Skins, Caps, Wizards, Freedom, Terps, Hoyas, GW, American, Catholic, Howard, G. Mason and Edison HS (Andy Najar's, ummm alumni...Onward Eagles) but none more than DC UNITED!!! Why?

The outcome of this courtship remains ambiguous but they may be playing footsie under the table.

So Chivas USA is doing something for Jaime? That's great. What are they doing for Talley?
