MLS weekend flashback

Columbus Crew 2, Philadelphia Union 1: 18,001 at PPL Park. Jason Garey leaves in the first half with a stomach ailment. Steven "Zantac" Lenhart comes on to score twice.

Toronto FC 2, Chivas USA 1: 20,648 at BMO Field. A Canadian team returns home from Honduras to defeat an American side with Mexican ownership and players from El Salvador and Costa Rica. Jack Warner weeps with joy.

New England Revolution 1, D.C. United 0: 12,218 at Gillette Stadium. Yup, it's just a coaching problem with DCU.

Kansas City Wizards 1, Real Salt Lake 1: 10,385 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Defending champs' new "Victory Gold" kits embarrassing to Ari Gold.

Colorado Rapids 1, San Jose Earthquakes 0: 12,701 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. As far as we know, Jon Busch and Robert Green are not related and have never met.

FC Dallas 3, Philadelphia Union 1: 8,732 at Pizza Hut Park. FCD adds bite to its game: According to this report, on a aerial challenge, defender Ugo Ihemelu's teeth "dug into [Kyle] Nakazawa's head."

Chicago Fire 0, New York Red Bulls 0: 21,868 at Toyota Park. Five DPs in one building! Other notable DPs in history: double plays, Diet Pepsi, Dom Perignon, Deportivo Pereira and Deep Purple.

Seattle Sounders 2, Houston Dynamo 0: 36,111 at Qwest Field. It's Fredy Montero's world. We just live in it. Scored or assisted on 14 of Seattle's past 17 goals.

geez, Goff, go to bed. a 2 am posting? I'm nine hours east, but haven't yet broken my habit of clicking on the Insider every now and then to see what's up.

Don't discourage him!

DadRyan: Schofield Barracks--probably for 3 years, but at least 1 of those will include a "vacation" to SW Asia. I'm due, I've had more than 3 years with my family, which is a lot for a Soldier these days.

It sure didn't look like 8,732 in attendance at Frisco, TX. It looked more like 2000.

Hey dcarmy, do you know that this is a message board about soccer? I guess you didn't get the memo.

Hey Dave, he was answering a direct question. Did you get the memo about trolls not welcome?

dcarmy, stay safe on your vacation. Most of us are proud of you.

Are we really in the same league as NY and Chicago?

Unbelieveable match.

Posted by: Southeasterner | August 9, 2010 8:34 AM | Report abuse

With regard to the NYRB v Fire game, DCU will likely sign Kandji soon. How did he miss those sitters? He'll fit right in with DCU forwards; and the fans (and scoring) will never notice the difference. Otherwise the game was very entertaining.

Jack Warner weeps alright, but only because he's not getting a cut of the ticket sales.

Count me among the proud of dcarmy crowd.

Make some room I want in too into the proud of dcarmy crowd. Thanks for wearing THE SHIRT, dcarmy.

Pizza Hut Park is exhibit A for the argument to NOT build an SSS so far away from the urban/population center. No one wants to drive that far, and DCU will lose a lot of attendence if its SSS is located in the western provinces of Northern Virginia for much the same reasons.

"Pizza Hut Park is exhibit A for the argument to NOT build an SSS so far away from the urban/population center."

Again with this. You people are never ever going to let up with this, are you? It's ownership and front office, not location, that is the problem with Dallas.

How far away is the Fire stadium from the city center? Joint looked pretty hot last night. Pretty entertaining 0-0 game. That guy Henry looks like he's played the game before.

Posted by: OWNTF | August 9, 2010 9:41 AM | Report abuse

Eh, Henry was a benchwarmer last year.

Posted by: Reignking | August 9, 2010 9:43 AM | Report abuse

@very_clever_username. Thank you. You beat me to it.

Posted by: nairbsod | August 9, 2010 9:48 AM | Report abuse

Surprise--FC Dallas and Colorado are the low points in attendance.

While away from the City Center, Toyota Park is pretty accessible via a couple highways (55 & 294), express buses from the end of the orange line at midway airport, and several bars run "beer" buses from their establishments to the stadium. Sure, it be great to have it right next to a CTA stop--but all and all can not complain.

Cesc will be in an Aresnal shirt for another year! The new campaign begins this weekend!

This is just the numbing agent I need after the 2010 edition of DC United!

Oh ok, so in that case a suburban stadium is gonna work out REALLY well for United.

DaveBrett please post your mailing address so we can send you the LOTP Lamp Shade bro. Gotta love it when people who NEVER post here jump in to admonish people about the supposed rules at SI...

dcarmy, you gotta bring your family with you to Hawaii my man!
My last trip back I had a hard time finding a soccer bar, but you may have more luck closer to base or in town somewhere. The good news is you are going to be posted just down the road from Haliewa and the rest of North Shore. Country as they call it is where it's at.

Perhaps you'll still be on the rock the next time the Ryan fam comes home. We'll be sure to invite you over for a bbq in Kailua.

and btw I did watch the second half of the DCU game last night on comcast's replay. I missed it live as I was at a wedding in Farmville...

DCU had some hustle and flow, but their finishing was still horrible.
Entertaining draw in Chicago.
Nice job plugging some more holes with your DP analogies Goff!

They have weddings on that Facebook game now?

From espn.com: "Firing Curt Onalfo doesn't hide the fact that United's front office has made a mess of the team's roster over the last several seasons." Some of us came to this conclusion about the front office a couple of seasons ago. True then...true now. Nothing will change (except possibly the location of the team) until there's a front office housecleaning.

Where is that direct question? Is it in Steve Goff's post? And what does that question have to do with soccer? Yeah, there must be something wrong with me for expecting people to use a soccer message board to talk about soccer.

Posted by: DaveBrett | August 9, 2010 12:33 PM | Report abuse

DaveBrett: You must be new here. This is much more than a soccer message board. We often write about music, food, good beer, bad puns, etc. Soccer is often an ancillary topic.

Why don't you take discussions about those topics to another message board? And if you have private messages for someone, why don't you ask that person for their email address, and send it to that person directly? This message board is supposed to be about soccer!

Posted by: DaveBrett | August 9, 2010 4:08 PM | Report abuse

DaveBrett, you're not talking about soccer, you're talking about commenting etiquette . . . do you think you could take that to the comment etiquette board?

Posted by: fallschurch1 | August 9, 2010 4:35 PM | Report abuse

Hey Dave,
Is this you?
http://www.davebrett.com/
With all due respect, you haven't talked about soccer at all, and have hopelessly derailed this thread. I for one only wish Goff a bigger, better, and funnier readership and welcome all new comers.
People come here because it IS THIS WAY and because Goff rules.

You could always go start your own blog, and impose a strict ban on anyone letting the conversation drift on to something not soccer related.
