*The Portland Timbers will select first in the MLS expansion draft in late November, and the Vancouver Whitecaps will have the top choice in the college draft in January in Baltimore.
*An MLS club and a USL-NASL second-division team have serious interest in U.S.-born, Uruguayan defender Agustin Viana, his representative told the Insider. A deal could be reached within a week. The identities of the club were not revealed. Viana, 26, most recently played in Italy's Serie B.
*Shawn Barry, an outstanding right back who helped Virginia to the NCAA title before being dismissed from the team after his sophomore year for academic reasons, has surfaced in Austria with the LASK Linz juniors.

Yeesh. If the kid couldn't even handle academics at UVA, I'm not sure he would have even been admitted to VT. [author ducks]
