I apologize for the double post but I thought this news as worthy. The below was posted at

"Team source @ DC United tells me Richie Williams turns down head coach job due to club's instability.

Source says Williams wasn't sure of direction of the club or future prospects of being in DC...once again per club source.

via Kristian Dyer of

The depressingly unfortunate stadium situation for D.C. United is something that's been upsetting to United fans for years now. But never before has it so evidently affected the club's on-field potential.

If viewed as a standalone event, this isn't a big deal. Richie Williams was never going to be a good choice for our next head coach anyway. But this could be a sign of a much much bigger problem. If Williams is rejecting the club because he's unsure of its future location, what other coaching candidates will do the same? What DP prospects will share his concerns and sign elsewhere?"

I wonder what this means for Williams. The rumors are Backe's planning to replace him with a European assistant. Is Ritchie willing to take another position there...or wait and see if he can land a job with the Cosmos?

Notwithstanding teh rumors that Sampson will get the Chivas job, sitting out a year or two is probably not a good career move in any field.

Who will the fans want if it comes down to a choice between Sampson and Gullit?

When Kristian Dyer posted his tweets last night, Kyle Sheldon responded with a 'needs to be more careful with his facts' kind of reply, and Dyer pulled his tweets. Apparently, Black & Red United still has the text from the tweets on their page; but Dyer seems to have retracted them last night.

Take that however you will.

Totally OT, but the Georgetown men's soccer team beat UConn 1-0 today and clinched the Big East Blue Division regular-season championship. The game was postponed from yesterday to today due to weather.

. . . clinched a share of the Blue Division championship. Sorry.

OT: I hear the production crew for AMC's zombie show "The Walking Dead" are using the gathering on the Mall Saturday to get B-roll for an upcoming episode.

Ture or not with Williams, it does lend credence to the idea that they'll have to go with a foreign coach, since no one in the US would want the job knowing the state of DCU.

As for Goff's question: MLS playoffs and whatever I can squeeze in while the baby nairb naps.

You better not disappoint next week!

@Dancy1: I hear you! But unlike my liberal colleagues in Chicago, Philly, etc., I'm just one man, one vote.

If it's not 'ture' it doesn't lend credence...

Besides the Redskins and Capitals, I am going to watch as much of the MLS playoffs as I can.

Watching the Colorado-Columbus game last night I realized that in addition to MLS playoffs and the World Series, the NFL, the NHL and the NBA are also all in season.

Posted by: Joel_M_Lane | October 29, 2010 9:35 AM | Report abuse

That's why this is without question the best time of the year in sports.

Definitely not going to miss Seattle v LA... Going to be a lot of intensity and fan craziness...

The Colorado v Columbus game yesterday was a little less than what I was hoping for...and so many empty seats--c'mon Colorado fans!

More MLS stuff: Jimmy Conrad says MLS still needs some changes on my fav soccer show:
