By Steve Goff

Maryland, enjoying its finest season in history, received one of the four No. 1 seeds in the NCAA women's soccer tournament and will host a four-team event this weekend.

On Friday at Ludwig Field, the ACC runner-up Terrapins (17-2-2) will play Big South champion High Point (11-10-1) at 5 p.m. and Georgetown (13-6-1) will face MAAC winner Siena (17-3-0) at 8. The survivors will meet Sunday at 1 p.m. in College Park.

Virginia (13-4-2) is the No. 2 seed in Maryland's region and will host Patriot League champion Lehigh (11-4-4) in the first round Friday in Charlottesville. Also in that region, Virginia Tech (10-9-1) will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on Dayton (18-3-0), with the winner likely to face third-seeded and host Ohio State (14-4-1).

James Madison, which upset Hofstra in the CAA final, will play Texas in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The other No. 1 seeds in the 64-team tournament are defending champion North Carolina, Stanford and Portland.

Not playing in the baseball stadium tonight. Still feel slow after 4 minutes.

15 minutes gone. Couple of shots, couple of corners, nothing much else

Lauren Cheney in the 16th!!!

Fine buildup, looks to shoot right footed from the top of the box, no angle, switches back left, takes a (not so strong) shot, bounces off a defender's foot, and rolls across the line past an off balance goalie.

Still 1-0 in the 30th.

More pressure in the box for us, but not the smoothest stuff.

That was a great volley.

Wambach in the 32nd. Couldn't tell who the fine cross was from, but a sweeping finish at the back post off Abby's left foot for the tally.

Lori Lindsey with the cross for Wambach.
