From the fabulous 101greatgoals.com Web site, miss after miss after miss by Veria FC in a Greek second-division league match against Levadeiakos last week:

In response to your comment JfA-ish. No, the U9 parents don't do that. Then again, those supporters are probably chanting something about the professions of the other team's mothers.

I tried to post this by individual dates, but the Post software held it up (maybe too many links). Anyway, here's the schedule page for soccer on TV over the holidays.

I like the end when the goalkeeper and defenders are arguing (presumably) about the missed coverage.

Posted by: I-270Exit1 | December 24, 2010 11:26 AM | Report abuse

Sadly all those attempt don't count as "shot on goal".

Posted by: tundey | December 24, 2010 11:29 AM | Report abuse

Really? Hitting the post doesn't count as on goal?

Posted by: edgeonyou | December 24, 2010 12:47 PM | Report abuse

Shots on Goal refer to shots that are either goals, or saved by the keeper.

My bad, benonthehill, I could not resist. I am not in the military so I really do not have any excuse other than I simply needed something soccer on the day. I humbly accept any cards dished out for the offense. Though in my defense I don't think it's desrving of a red.

I await the ruling on the field, err, I mean blog.

Off Topic, but who cares.

The Capitals are headed for another early playoff exit. They can beat mediocre teams like Carolina, but wow the Penguins are better than the Caps at almost every position.

The defense continues to be spotty, goaltending incredibly average, Semin his usual hot and cold self, and Overrated-echkin looks like he spent too much time and energy boozing over the summer with the Russian bathing beauties.

Yep, looking like another playoff one- (or two)-and out for the perennially pretty good but never great Caps.

The Economist is out? After only 150 years? I guess that confirms that I'm old. I always hoped Lexington would attend a DCU game and opine on the cultural relevance of football to Americans. I suppose nowadays people would want Drudge to do it. What, he's out too? Sigh.

@ben -- Doubt you'll find great insight on Uruguayan football here. However. lest we forget our Pablo Hernandez spent a year with Racing and scored a pair of goals. The next year he was a different Uruguayan side and he tallied 3 times. I guess he was getting better service from his Uruguayan teammates. WHo knows -- maybe Brasesco comes recommended by the same scout/connection?

I finished watching the Arsenal-Chelsea game last night. Gunners finally won a game against one of the top three, and looked good doing it.

My son favors Arsenal, my daughter Man United. And they constantly bicker about it. I guess that makes us a Eurosnob family.

Dr. Goff,
5 Akron Zips signed to Generation Adidas contracts this year. That makes 8 in three (3) years. Any word on Inner Harbor United targeting Kofi Sarkodie or Perry Kitchen as attacking defender/Midfielders in the SuperDraft?
Good thing Caleb Porter has the pipeline filled with new talent but losing 7 total from the national Championship side tough to replace.
Darlington Nagbe to win the Herman Trophy - a good bet.
Happy New Year SG.
