Video: Chilean player initiates punch to his own face in South American under-20 soccer qualifier
We've seen players trip themselves, take spectacularly embellished dives and feign injury in cowardly attempts to draw a foul or penalty kick. Now comes this antic from the Ecuador-Chile match at the recent South American under-20 qualifying tournament. Sadly, the ploy worked. The culprit was Chile's Bryan Carrasco. Ecuador won the match, 1-0. (Thanks to Insider loyalist The Force for the video link.)

It is quite brilliant, in a rascally sort of way. One hopes that this damages Chile's karma a bit, of course.

Grant Wahl would give Carrasco a life suspension.

This has to end. If players knew these things were reviewable and that they could be fined and even suffer a long suspension I guarantee the garbage would stop. If UEFA can give Dida a 2 game suspension, CONMEBOL shouldn't hesitate to teach this kid a lesson.

Well, it has. Of the 6 teams in the CONMEBOL U20 hexagonal round, 4 qualified and host country, Colombia qualified as well. So, the only team that didn't qualify was Chile (of the 6).

The disgusted commentator's "Por favor, c@r@jo!"
Pretty much sums up what I feel about this shameless "tactic" or "play" or "playtactic".
The player disgraced himself, the jersey and most importantly, Chile.

that youtube video is the funniest thing in soccer i've ever seen. that guy is a genious. i see a political future in that capable young man.

I gotta say, the guy had great timing and technique. The ball was just getting to his opponent and the ref was relatively shielded. He had time to be sure he had the forearm in his grip and make the move. Ingenious! I just don't know why some people don't like soccer;-) The diving, the writhing, the whining and now the autoaggression will continue to hurt the sport.

You just knew that that clip and story were going to make the Yahoo homepage...
Not that I worry about the "haterz" any...

I wouldn't call Brooks Peck a "hater..." He puts up a lot of spectacular goals as well, which shows the great side of the game. Am I psyched that this is on the front page of Yahoo, though? No, of course not.
The haters will find their own ammunition, or even make it up.

Isn't somebody on here going to say "I've got that move"?

yankiboy - he's saying "por favor, Carrasco", not the word you think you're hearing.

@Modibo-I wasn't referring to Brooks Peck as a hater. I was referring to some of the comments that I won't be bothering to read. You are right about the haterz. Haterz hate--that's just what they do.
@robperez1-Thanks Bro--I must have been projecting. Somtimes that particular accent throws me a bit. Kind of like the Minnesota and Wisconsin one(s).
