Chelsea vs. Liverpool is the match to watch. I'll be rooting for Suarez and Co. to ruin Torres's debut at Stamford Bridge.

I wouldn't mind seeing Barcelona-Atletico Madrid and Inter-Roma, too.

Posted by: Brokenbil | February 3, 2011 1:21 PM | Report abuse

Those whining scousers wanted Chelsea to sit Torres against them. Like 45 million quid wasn't enough.
Go you Blues!

Posted by: wmsiii | February 3, 2011 1:40 PM | Report abuse

Is there any chance Mike Bradley gets on the pitch against his boy Deuce? I wouldn't mind watching that, even if Bradley starts the match on the bench.

Posted by: DadRyan | February 3, 2011 2:16 PM | Report abuse

@DadRyan
Bradley is just getting back to England today, after having had to return to Germany while is work permit paperwork cleared. Still, the Villa website said he is "penciled in" for his debut on Saturday.

As far as Chelsea v. Liverpool goes, is it possible for them to both lose?

Posted by: FulhamDC | February 3, 2011 2:28 PM | Report abuse

probably just 'the big one' sunday down south...

Posted by: rainORshine | February 3, 2011 2:31 PM | Report abuse

Oh yeah, I forgot about Villa-Fulham! I'll have to switch back and forth between FSC and GolTV.

England, Newcastle-Arsenal 10 a.m. Fox Soccer Channel (affirmative)

Mexico, Toluca-Atlas (shrugs)

Posted by: Rand-al-Thor | February 3, 2011 2:44 PM | Report abuse

FulhamDC, I think a scoreless draw would constitute a huge disappointment for Chelsea and Liverpool.

Hmm, posted same comment twice. (Stupid computer.)

Posted by: Brokenbil | February 3, 2011 3:10 PM | Report abuse

Liverpool may take a bite out of Chelsea.

Posted by: OWNTF | February 3, 2011 4:21 PM | Report abuse

Hoping to see Wolves-Man Utd plus a Bradley debut on Saturday...Chelsea-'Pool and the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Posted by: soccerman | February 3, 2011 4:29 PM | Report abuse

Bradley/Dempsey for sure.

Fischy, just to make a comment on your last from the last thread: I don't think Davies was ever really all that big in terms of muscle mass. I think that just his background as a All-State (maybe even All-American) high school wrestler taught him leverage, balance, and technique no soccer defender ever saw.

Posted by: JacobfromAtlanta-ish | February 3, 2011 4:37 PM | Report abuse

Nice NYT article on Holden: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/04/sports/soccer/04holden.html?ref=global

Watch the highlights of the Bolton-Wolves game, you'll see that Holden's closing down of the Wolve's midfielder was instrumental in the winning goal. He is all hustle all the time. (Not implying that he isn't talented--but his work rate is phenomenal.)

I've got the solution for the USMNT: converted wrestlers. Lots of them.

Posted by: BooThisMan | February 3, 2011 5:30 PM | Report abuse

Sat:
Arsenal v Newcastle (Mrs. Grubbsbl's team)
United v Wolves (My Team: will watch United struggle/look sloppy in a 2-1 victory I suppose)
Villa v Fulham (Bradley v Dempsey)

Sun:
Chelsea v Liverpool (Hope Torres/Drogba/Carrol/Suarez/Lampard/Gerrard all get injured in insane collision and game ends in a draw)

Super-Bowl: Hope game is good.

the next prodigy from Silver Spring and Pachuca FC -- 10 years of age and supposedly on his way to AC Milan ---

OWNTF... why did I get the feeling reading that article of a parallel between that child's story and the TLC show "Toddlers and Tiara's?"

43 days until United's first 2011 league match!

"The only thing I can say is, I saw Freddy Adu when he was younger; I really believe he has the makings to be better," said Zarate, who has coached club soccer in Maryland for more than 15 years.

Some day he may win a starting job in a second-rate European league.

Joseph said A.C. Milan questioned the age of the Sandy Spring Friends fifth-grader, despite Patrick standing just 4-foot-5.

One can't deny that the parallels with Adu are eerie.

slightly OT, but I just discovered that FiOS includes this channel called YES HD. I think it has something to do with the Yankees or NY sports. But among their programming is Arsenal TV including their weekly team show and their matches (a day or two after they are played) in gorgeous HD.

Villa vs Fulham is my top pick.

Both teams have had some great runs (minus Villa's loss @ ManU) and they both really want the win to distance themselves from relegation.

I'm pulling for a Fulham win and Dempsey goal but I'm feeling a draw is the most likely outcome. Fulham still desperately needs Zamora back in the lineup to help the Deuce up front.

I don't know, the site voices.washingtonpost.ME seems like it'd be a pretty safe bet to not get shut down, definitely not like voices.washingtonpost.net would.

Supposedly The Ben and Charlie are having a live interview at 1 pm ET here:

Don't know if I'll listen to the Olsen and Davies press conference that OWNTF linked above but it should be an interesting day to see how Davies looks in at least scrimmage type situations with the team.

Does anyone remember the team training schedule?

I'm pretty sure I read that they would soon have a couple of same-day scrimmages w the Canadian u20's and FIU where every available healthy body would get a chance for some action.

I prefer .FM radio.

I don't understand why dcunited.com is not live-streaming every minute of training and packing all of Davies' touches into highlights.

Never mind about the pre-season schedule info. I found it on Goff's previous blog entry rather than the team website where I was looking in vain:

"United's first matches in Florida will be Monday at the training fields of Fort Lauderdale Stadium: a morning game against Canada's under-20 national team and, for those who don't play in the first contest, an afternoon match vs. Florida International University."
