Sotomayor Story Made for the Big Screen?

By Jerry Markon
Amid the political posturing and sober legal analysis of the Supreme Court confirmation battle, The Daily Beast has come up with a different take:

Sotomayor: The Movie.

Starring, among others, Danny DeVito as Justice Antonin Scalia.

The Web site founded by celebrity editor Tina Brown decided to imagine its "dream cast" for a film about Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor because her “life story is ready-made for Hollywood."

Among the choices, who are pictured in a gallery next to their look-alike Supremes: Actress/singer Sara Ramirez as Sotomayor; Danny Glover as Justice Clarence Thomas and Ernest Borgnine as Justice John Paul Stevens.

Fans of the television show "Frasier" will be happy: actress Bebe Neuwirth, who played Lilith on both "Frasier" and "Cheers" would portray Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, while David Hyde Pierce (Frasier’s fastidious brother, Niles) is the imaginary Justice Samuel Alito.

The Beast even went beyond the insular world of the court, conjuring up actress Lupe Ontiveros as Sotomayor’s mother. Actor and conservative columnist Ben Stein, who gained fame as the droning, monotonous teacher in "Ferris Bueller’s Day Off" would play Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, a Sotomayor mentor.
