As for Boos, Portis has Seen Worse

I talked to Josh Portis a little bit about the boos at Byrd Stadium directed at Jordan Steffy, or the offense, and Portis emphasized that he has seen a lot worse. When Portis was at Florida, he remembers the situation with Chris Leak, a former high school stud who struggled winning big in college. Turned out, Leak won the national title and was the best quarterback on the field in the blowout against Ohio State. That's a game that also included Troy Smith and Tim Tebow. I was there for that one, so it's interesting to see how fortunes can change fast. Here is more from Portis:

“I heard the boos,” Portis said. “I have seen worse than that. When I was at Florida, Chris Leak, they really didn’t like him, because he had been there and they went 8-5 two years in a row. It gets worse. That is part of playing the quarterback position. If the fans don’t like you, it’s going to be tough. But I think Jordan can do the job. Unfortunately he had a thumb injury. I can’t speak on that because that’s not my problem or issue. I wish the best for him. He comes prepared every day.”
