QB Chris Turner's Issue: Consistency
This will be an important test for quarterback Chris Turner. He completed 15 of 19 passes Saturday, looking near flawless throughout the 35-27 victory against California. Can Turner find consistency and duplicate his performance against an inferior team?
“The big plays will come if he just manages and takes what the plays give him,” Coach Ralph Friedgen said. “He played a very good game. He still has to put us in better run checks. He missed a couple of those. What I have been concerned with, he has not necessarily been seeing the rotation of the secondary and has been holding the ball. If he can continue to improve on that, I think he gives us a real chance to be a good football team. The biggest thing Chris has to do is be consistent in doing it. When he is good, he is very good. The next week he goes out and he is not quite as good as what he was. I told him that one time.”
Turner said, “You expect me to be real good every week.”
Friedgen said, “Yeah. That’s what quarterbacks do!”
Turner said, “For real?”
“He is different,” Friedgen said. “Different.”
