Quick Thoughts

This was the worst loss of the Ralph Friedgen era.

Ralph said he was embarrassed. Several players told me the same.

Darrius Heyward-Bey blamed the first week of classes. Seriously.

And maybe the worst news (other than the loss): Cal hung 66 points on Wash State.

Does Maryland have a chance against Cal?

Based on the Terps' performance the past two weeks - I doubt it!

Screw the excuses. We were out coached and out played. You cannot take any team for granted.

As for Cal next week? It's an ESPN game and expect the Terps to get pumbled.

The only thing that might save us is the 12:00 kick-off...Once Cal wakes up, we are toast.

The defensive scheme is horrible.

Worst loss in Fridgen era....TRUE.

The entire team should be embarassed...players and coaches.

Ineffective offense and defense.

We will get killed playing the top ACC teams if radical improvement isnt made.

So far, WCO sucks, and "D" not any better than last year...no pressure on the QB, no adjustments to take away the short pass.

May be a long year.

Terps were 2 plays away from being shutout and totally dominated by a mediocre Sun Belt team. Wow. And to think I almost drove up there for the game. Thanks for the first 3 years Ralph. Bye.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Can you NOW tell that my boo is for Fridge and not for Steffy?!?!

next week may be worse than the PSU disaster of 77-7.

we look awful. and what is worse is that we probably have the most talent that we've ever had. and we may end up having the worst season of the Fridge era.

The Fridge needs de-frosting. It may be time to un-plug it.

Viva La Resistance...

Turner stank worse than a catfish that was in the sun for two weeks. He can no longer have any claim to be a starter. Portis looked good in his limited playing time. Ralph give him a shot. He cant possibly be worse than Steffy or Turner. If Turner is still thinking of transfering I'm pretty sure that San Diego Community College might be a good fit. I will be happy to drive him to the bus station and pay for a one way ticket back to California.

Ralph should have named Turner as the starter at the end of last season. He earned it! By splitting the snaps in practice i'm sure his confidence was eroded as well as valuable pratice time. I'ts hard to progress when your looking over your shoulder knowing if you make one mistake you get yanked.

Aside from a lack of intensity which is unexcusable considering they barly beat a divisiion II school the week before doesn't bode well for the rest of the season.

The playcalling was predictable and we were totaly out coached. Bottom line this was PATHETIC! Cal by 24 at College Park. It's going to be a complete embarresment!

PS; Ralph we were booing you not Steffy. So you can stop playing the myrter! It's not Steffys fault he's a world class choke artist. It's your fault for starting him! Drop Middle Tennesse from any future schedule. Maybe we can hanldle De Matha?

That was ugly. Just to play devil's advocate, it may be that we were the team that was the start of a great year for MTSU. It's still an ugly, awful loss. No one looked good. I certainly hope the Steffy bashers quiet down now though. It aint him, it's everyone.

Saturday could get very ugly. Or, it could save the year. New day, new game.

Wow, that vaunted West Coast Offense is doing wonders for the two local teams.

Its time to clean house. Yow , Friedgen, Williams and their staffs need to go.

Maybe MD should have Paul Johnson not GA Tech

Hell! This was simply pathetic.

The offensive play calling was a joke! It was down right ridiculous. We have talent, and the offensive coordinator just doesn't know how to use it.

Be prepared Terp fans for a horrible season, and even worse coaching! Franklin out to kicked off campus, and the coaching staff immediately.

Worst loss in Fridge's tenure.

Okay, Okay.

Yeah this loss definitely bites it, No Diggety- Doubt, but let's calm down. It is clear that the team will need HUGE, and MASSIVE SUPPORT for us to avoid humiliation next week. Let's make sure they have it, besides, a win over Cal will make everyone forget these past two weeks and the fridge will be lovable once again.......I hope. until then my advice is to keep your shells hard and ready cuz next week WE WILL SHOCK THE WORLD..

P.S. I am not on drugs just REEAALLYY OPTIMISTIC!! :-) Go Terps!!

Hey, makes two of us Joe. I really do wish people would stop, well, whining so much. Yes, it was ugly, but the season's far from over. Maybe we should try a little optimism from time to time instead of "FIRE 'EM ALL!" after two games.

See everyone at Byrd on Saturday.

Agree with the posters that a coaching change is in order. And Chairman Yow needs to go also.

i am a season ticket holder, it has gotten worse instead of better. when fatty won all those games they were not his kids. he cant recruit. he loses great players. there are no qb's in the pipeline. hayward bey will head to the nfl because we will have a crappy season. bring in a coach who will pound the pavement and recruit. plus a drive from salisbury to boot. poor excuse of the first week of classes.

i dont know if this was the worse loss in his tenure because they had some clunkers in the ACC with the season on the line. But, being that they were dominated by a sun belt team makes it hard to swallow. The offense is inept and if you want to play Portis, play him for an entire series. As bad as Turner played, at least he tries to throw the ball down the field. The defense really stinks. A sun belt team pushed them off the line and ran around free in the secondary. Every team now knows to spread Maryland out to neutralize their team speed because that is all MD has is speed on defense--no big boys clogging the middle. Cal will score at will and Maryland will struggle to move the ball. Cal 45 MD 21. Our field goal kicker stinks and suddenly that is the least of MD's problems.

Posted by: zman | September 7, 2008 9:47 AM | Report abuse

Aparently this team thinks it just needs to show up to win. Considering last weeks near disaster at home no less, this game is the worst performance I can remember since I attended MD in the early 70's. We took some good beatings in the past but they were against powerhouses like Penn State.

It's time to start benching some of these seniors who don't give a crap and build for the future! While were at it hire a third grade coach for offensive coordinator!
