Basketball Update

Just arrived at Byrd Stadium from the basketball scrimmage. A few hundred fans watched the hoops team play, applauding the squad at the end. Overall, I thought Landon Milbourne and Sean Mosley looked the best. Milbourne had a flurry of points at the end of the game. Look for Milbourne to play some at the power forward slot this season. Mosley made a few mid-range jumpers. Dino Gregory also looked improved.

The biggest issue, of course, is the frontcourt. Neither Braxton Dupree nor Jerome Burney showed me anything. Even using a three- or four-guard lineup, I’m not sure how Maryland will compensate for the lack of an inside presence.

Gary Williams liked the team’s energy and said players looked very quick on the court. Regarding the frontcourt, he said: “We are trying to see what we have with our big guys.”

Adrian Bowie and Eric Hayes are competing for the starting point guard slot. Williams said Hayes has “really settled in at the point guard spot” and that Bowie’s shooting stroke has improved.

Time for football …
