Former Terps QB starting for 49ers

With the Terps' next game still more than a week away, I thought this was a fact worth sharing in case you missed it: Shaun Hill is a starting quarterback in the NFL.

Coach Mike Singletary said of Hill: "He's a steady guy. He's consistent."

That's how Maryland fans will remember him from Coach Ralph Friedgen's charmed first season as head coach in College Park. It's amazing how recruiters and draft scouts drool over heights and arm strength and tight spirals, but "steady" and "consistent" are often all a team needs.

Anyone else shocked by what happened with Vernon Davis out in San Fran this weekend? That just isn't the Vernon Davis I remember from MD at all. I think that franchise is so messed up it's turned him crazy. He just never seemed like a 'me first' guy and now they're trying to pin him up as a poster child for what's wrong with the NFL. If San Fran is sick of him and wants to trade him I'de be happy to see him on the Giants, we cna always use another toy for Eli to play with.

And good for Shaun Hill. He should've been the starter out there from the jump. He earned that job the last 4 games last year when he had them moving the ball.

Yeah, it was more than a little depressing having the most coverage a former Terp gets (since Merriman is out) being Davis' apparent tantrum this weekend.

From the sounds of this Singletary was the one throwing the tantrum and him and Davis kissed and made up. Davis just needs to get out of there. Crazy coach, jacked up front office, Mike Martz, Alex Smith, Rice a Roni...

Speaking of former Terps everytime I see a Seahawks highlite reel Josh Wilson is busting a long kick return or picking a pass off. Making quite a name for himself out there in the Pacific Northwest.

Don't forget that Shaun Hill started 2 games at the end of the season last year for San Fran and went 2-0. They re-signed him in the offseason and looked like he would be the opening-day starter for them. Then Mike Martz came in and brought along his boy JT O'Sullivan and named him the starter.

Shaun's a good QB. He may not make your jaws drop, but he is a smart QB who is efficient and can make plays and win games. His career QB rating (albeit in limited time) is 101.5. He has the ability to play consistently at that level.

And hopefully this will help with Vernon too. All the best to those two!

Maybe they will all help each other out. Josh Wilson picks off OSullivan and runs it back for a TD and OSullivan gets benched. Hill comes in and passes the ball to Davis getting the fans off his back and earning Hill the starting job for the rest of the year. and the circle of life spins on...
