Groh on ACC Teleconference

Just finished with Al Groh’s teleconference. He praised Maryland, saying the Terrapins have two quality wins (two more than Virginia has). And he said Maryland has one of the most exciting players in college football, an apparent reference to Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Regarding the rivalry with Maryland, Groh said: Maryland “is one of the teams we have had a long history with, particularly when we were a smaller conference. It is a very important game to our team and it is our annual game. So that certainly designates it as being different from the other games. The one team from the other division we know we will play every year.”

Asked if he is facing the biggest challenge of his career this season, Groh said: “They are all pretty big challenges [every year]. Last year’s team won nine games, but on a week-to-week basis that was a pretty big challenge for that team to win nine games. They are all maxed out as far as challenges go.”

Friedgen up next in 30 minutes.
