Somebody tell Maryland to hit the snooze alarm so they can wake up from their worst nightmare.

Posted by: Terpina | October 4, 2008 8:28 PM | Report abuse

It's time for Friedgen to throw the fridge. The entire team needs a wake-up call!

Posted by: Terptwin | October 4, 2008 8:31 PM | Report abuse

I'm out. I don't care if they come back. Not watching another second of this crap.

UVA lost to Duke last week by 28 points. Let me repeat. 28 points. To Duke.

And I wonder why none of the best players in this area come to play at College Park. This coaching staff should be run out on a rail.

Posted by: KA | October 4, 2008 8:32 PM | Report abuse

So does that mean Maryland would lose to Duke by atleast 43? :)

Posted by: Your Friend to the South | October 4, 2008 8:38 PM | Report abuse

Pathetic. I know it would be hard to watch, but is the game even being televised?

Posted by: Jason | October 4, 2008 8:39 PM | Report abuse

It's on ESPNU. Don't even bother tuning in.

And yes, I think Duke would beat Maryland, because these idiots would assume they were too good to lose to the Blue Devils.

Posted by: KA | October 4, 2008 8:42 PM | Report abuse

Tough half. Still a half to play and the game is not over yet.

Posted by: mike at the game | October 4, 2008 8:42 PM | Report abuse

What the hell is ESPN-U? I sure don't get that one. Call it morbid curiosity, but I'd like to watch this trainwreck to see of UM has a comeback in them. Instead of Md - UVA, MASN has those 2 national powerhouses Liberty and Coastal Carolina. Maybe it's a theme, stick w/big losers, like the O's and the Nats.

Cliff, at this point, I am sure the game you are watching on MASN is more competitive than this show the Terps are putting on. Our kicker cannot even execute an onside kick.

It is time for Ralph to step down. I think we need to see if either Bronco Mendenhall, Kyle Whittingham, or Chris Peterson would be willing to leave their schools and take over this program and IMPROVE it elite status.

Al Groh sold his soul to me to keep his pathetic job.

Posted by: THE DEVIL | October 4, 2008 8:59 PM | Report abuse

this loss will be MUCH worse than the MTSU loss. and yes, this game is already over, despite that there are 24 minutes left

Posted by: Sam | October 4, 2008 8:59 PM | Report abuse

This is a disgrace.

Posted by: Jay | October 4, 2008 9:01 PM | Report abuse

How many more losses to inferior teams do we have to suffer through before Debbie Yow steps up, shows some stones and puts someone in place that can actually get this program above mediocrity?

Mike Locksley in '09. Change we can believe in.

Posted by: KA | October 4, 2008 9:03 PM | Report abuse

Living in the DC area, I have to say that my favorite games every year are Maryland and VaTech. Difference between the two - VaTech would not lose a game like this that they were supposed to win in a runaway. We (Virginia) absolutely stink this year, but I'm comforted that at least we will once again show you Terps morons that you are still not ready for prime time. WahooWa!!

Posted by: WahooFan | October 4, 2008 9:08 PM | Report abuse

This whole coaching staff needs to go. They absolutely no clue as to what they are doing from practice to the game field. They were 4-1 fraud before tonight, and it will only get worse from here. A-whip from Wake coming next in College Park in two weeks.

I still think there is no chance Fridge will be fired, but if Cosh doesn't go you have to wonder if anybody involved in UMD football knows what they are doing.

Posted by: Jason | October 4, 2008 9:28 PM | Report abuse

just damn

Posted by: rox_publius | October 4, 2008 9:32 PM | Report abuse

Even the reporter gave up. Probably sick to his stomach.

"I still think there is no chance Fridge will be fired, but if Cosh doesn't go you have to wonder if anybody involved in UMD football knows what they are doing."

Jason, you maybe right, but this program will go nowhere until Coach Fridge steps down. I have literally had it with this program. I have been a fan since I was six years old, was student at the school when Len Bias died, and I have never been this angry at Maryland sports as I have been tonight.

Posted by: Anonymous | October 4, 2008 9:47 PM | Report abuse

Just when you want the fridge hot, the fridge goes cold. He said it himself .. are the kids still listening to him.

But enough of that, the real culprit tonight is Yow and the fact a University of Maryland football game is not available to be seen by Maryland taxpayers. I mean, not even basic cable .. gotta go premium.

I saw the explanation about the ACC .. that's a bad excuse (and certainly not the poster's fault, appreciate the explanation). I mean, serioulsy, how much money do these folks need?

I hope the Governor calls whoever's in charge of UMD who calls Yow and tells her to find a way to cut this out. The program might decide to be someone else's chump but not the fans of Maryland. Think of all the money this administration restored to help hold the line on tuition at UMD. Not a good return.

You need to ask Ralph some seriously tough questions after this game, such as:

Do you deserve to keep you job?

When will Cosh be fired?

Has the game passed you by?

Posted by: Disgusted | October 4, 2008 9:53 PM | Report abuse

The Maryland Football Program has never been, is not now, and will never be an elite program(.)! They are absolutely pathetic! I'm sick and tired of them playing down to the competion, year in and year out! Most of the coaches should be fired tonight! There is positively no excuse to go down to Virginia and lay an egg! Maryland's 3-4 defense is nothing more than a joke, and they've played it for decades! You can't tell me that they can't find somebody to play a fourth down lineman to put more pressure on the quarterback! And the offensive play calling? Please, give me a break! How can one of the most exciting players in the ACC, or in the nation, for that matter in Haywood-Bey only have 12 receptions coming into tonights game? Can someone explain that one to me? Anybody? Then, when they do get some talent on the team, you have morons like Aaron Henderson who decides to leave early and not even get drafted! What a joke! My brother and I have had season tickets for the last 25 to 30 years, but you can stick a fork in me, beacause I'm done!!

Posted by: Patrick J Ryan | October 4, 2008 9:53 PM | Report abuse

Well said Patrick. I am happy we got shutout (sarcastic). Maybe another beatdown like this from Wake Forest will get the administration moving.

Posted by: Elwood | October 4, 2008 10:02 PM | Report abuse

Time to pull the plug on the Fridge and get something that can cook up a winning tradition!

Posted by: FedUpTerp'82 | October 4, 2008 10:07 PM | Report abuse

In the end, Fridge will do what he always does in these games and that is blame the kids. He is making too much money not to have the team prepared but they were not ready. I left the room after the first eight minutes because you could see that they were not ready. Problem getting rid of Fridge is so much is left on his contract. You will see a lot of empty seats the rest of the year. I have had seats since 1975 but they will be empty until he is gone.

Posted by: Mike | October 4, 2008 10:09 PM | Report abuse

Right now I am on the firing-Fridge bandwagon also. Maybe I'll calm down in a couple months.

Posted by: Lindemann | October 4, 2008 10:20 PM | Report abuse

Ditto what WahooFan said above. I love to hear all the pregame speculation about how the terps will do this and do that to their bretheren to the south. Maybe the local media will now get off their high horses about Maryland being the only game in town, and give at least a few props to the UVA fans who live in the area.

Posted by: AnotherWahooFan | October 4, 2008 10:23 PM | Report abuse

(1) TERPS used to have a first-rate football program - when Jim Tatum was the coach.
(2) As a University of Virginia Alumnus, I implore all alumni and friends of the TERPS to contact Debbie Yow and express their undying support for THE FRIDGE.
(3)I knew the WAHOOS had running backs. They did NOT have an offensive line, a defense, or a quarterback - until tonight.

Posted by: tslats | October 4, 2008 9:49 PM

Has it ever occurred to you that so called "big time football" is not a good investment?

Probably not, from your post. You seem to think the state of Maryland should invest money so you can watch Maryland football on tv.

Wake up.

Posted by: Ho Ho Ho | October 4, 2008 11:06 PM | Report abuse

I don't think big time football is a good investment.

I didn't say spend more money, I'm insisting we've spent enough throughout the entire (outstanding) U of M system to be able to ask why Marylanders can't watch the games. And, if you get a sorry excuse like 'well, the ACC ..' I say the heck with that. Fix the problem and make sure U of M games are available to folks. I don't think that should cost us a dime more than the significant amount already invested by you and me.

Oh, and if anyone should wake up, it's the Coach and his staff.

Have a lovely evening.

Posted by: tslats | October 4, 2008 11:48 PM | Report abuse

some rivalry if it can only be watched on espnU. You think OSUvsUM is on espnU? Or FSUvsMiami? Weak sauce. Stuff like this only further proves we have no rival. With the expansion, UVA gets more pumped about VT than us.

Posted by: d'oh | October 5, 2008 12:03 AM | Report abuse

I loved this result.

Virginia -- 31
Maryland -- 0 (zero - zip - zilch - nada)

Maryland's - Defensive and Offensive lines and Linebacking corp are the worst in College Football.

I have seen harder hitting teams in powder puff leagues.

Maryland's recruiting efforts are going to take a major hit with this result.

Prediction:

Wake Forest -- 34
Maryland -- 10

Maryland will finish with a 5-7 record.

I am happy that Maryland is no longer recruiting Tavon Austin.

Jelani Jenkins, Travis Hawkins and Isaac Holmes will be signing with the University of Florida.

Go Tar Heels !
