Update From Friedgen

A quick afternoon update from College Park: Ralph Friedgen choked up three times during his press conference today, mostly when he talked about the Virginia loss. He said the Wake Forest game is the most important game of the season and that the Demon Deacons are probably the best team Maryland will have played so far. Friedgen talked up Wake Forest's defense, especially its secondary. And, of course, he spoke highly of kicker Sam Swank, who is questionable with a leg injury.

"That's a big injury because he really impacts the game," Friedgen said. "We'll have to keep a close eye on that."

Friedgen said the Virginia loss was one of the toughest losses he has ever experienced. He said the team practiced well last week and he saw a sincere desire in players to perform well and improve. "I don't think we have been close to reaching our potential," Friedgen said.

Friedgen said "everyone is accountable" for the team's performance, but for the first time in a long time he did not go on and on about not reaching players.

I will have more after practice today.
