College Football Officials: You Make the Call

In another interesting story from the indefatigable Commonwealth correspondent Zach Berman, Virginia Coach Al Groh diplomatically voices some displeasure with the performance of the officiating crew at the Cavaliers' game this past Saturday against Miami.

Putting aside the specifics of Groh's complaints -- he did not blame the Cavs' loss solely on the calls but did say, "We're just saying that little things that doesn't look like very much, as you evaluate things from what impact officiating had on the game, then it probably had significant impact." -- officials in college football are coming under increased scrutiny, and instant replay has helped only so much, as many of the complaints have involved the replay officials themselves (as Groh's did in one case).
