Is Maryland Ready? Who knows?
So after all the talk about turning points in the season, self-motivation, a chance to win the division and one final showcase for the seniors, Coach Ralph Friedgen was asked whether his team is ready to play:
“Can never tell about this team,” he said, almost resigned to the fact at this point of the season. “Not sure if they are excited to play or not.”
Make what you will of that statement. I’m not sure what to make of it, nor do I know what to make of this team just a week before Thanksgiving. It’s hard to envision Maryland laying a complete egg (see MTSU, U-Va.) because of everything at stake. But it is possible to envision Maryland playing so-so and losing to a team even more desperate than they are.
I've come to believe Maryland could be two days from playing in the Orange Bowl and Friedgen might say the same thing. An odd group of players. But fun to cover.
