The Countdown Begins
Today marks the start of a short and action-packed week leading up to Thursday’s big game in Blacksburg. We have stories on Virginia Tech's Cory Holt and Maryland's Davin Meggett in today’s paper, and we will have extensive coverage of both squads, both here at Terrapins Insider and in the newspaper, leading up to Thursday night’s kickoff. The game, of course, is critical to Virginia Tech’s hopes. In an odd way, it is not as critical to Maryland’s title chances because the Terrapins have some margin for error because of Florida State’s loss. The Nov. 22 game against Florida State now looms very large for Ralph Friedgen’s team. Another interesting note about Thursday’s game: No one will likely know the true availability of four key players --- Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, Da’Rel Scott and Dave Philistin – until kickoff.
Here is a brief rundown of the schedule during an unusual week that includes a Redskins game tonight and an election of some interest on Tuesday:
Today: I’ll speak with Ralph Friedgen and players after Maryland’s afternoon practice.
Tuesday: Friedgen holds his news conference at 1 p.m., and that’s it for the day in terms of access.
Wednesday: Friedgen speaks to the nation on the ACC teleconference.
Thursday: Steve Yanda and I will make the trek down to Blacksburg early so we can jump online for a 2 p.m. online chat with our loyal readers and fans. So please send in questions early and often.
Thursday night: We will cover the game and blog throughout, as Steve Yanda, Zach Berman and myself cram into the Lane Stadium press box down in Blacksburg. Yes, we're triple-teaming this game; it should be a fun one. We hope you check back throughout the week. Time for the gym...
