Bowl Update, Coaching News

It has been a long day, but the focus once again turns to the beautiful town of Muncie, Ind., and what Ball State and the MAC want to do.

To sum up the day:

Maryland really explored options today to make the EagleBank Bowl work. They really did. And for a moment, I thought it would work. Too many kids have exam conflicts. The Navy-Maryland game almost certainly won't happen.

The ball is in Ball State's court right now. Does it want to play Boise on the blue turf? Also waiting word on the WAC meetings today and whether the WAC wants Boise in Boise or in San Diego against TCU.

Charlotte took North Carolina, so that's out.

It's going to be Boise or an at-large slot for Maryland.

If Boise heads to San Diego, raise your hands if you would get excited for a Nevada-Maryland football game in Boise, Idaho.

Not all at once, okay.

And Danny Pearman, Maryland's tight ends and special teams coach, has taken an assistant coaching position at Clemson, where he graduated.

this is yet another indictment of coach fridgen. dont get me wrong he has taken the program to the level that maryland football is talked about. right now we are a decent team and that is really all you can say about us. no one is really worried about playing us.another problem is that we cant keep top talent here!Look at any of the top teams around the country from they keep the best talent home.for example,if you look at the penn state starters for instance 11 players from the DC-Bmore area 6 are starters.Navarro Bowman and aaron maybin would have definetly helped the D and i willing to bet that having Derrick williams and Deon Butler along side of hey bey, would have made the offense even more dangerous.I am not even going to start with all the talent we lose to UVA and Vatech!!!! the problem here at maryland is two, recruits right here in the area dont take the program seriously and clearly bowl committees dont take our program serious.
I doubt this season will cost ralph his job. Fact is it should because there are some candidates that could really energize our program and keep the areas wealth of talent right here in the area. really since the fast start of fridge era: 3 consecutive 10 wins seasons, the terps are 31-28, this is not how championships are much would it energize the players and fan base if say philip fulmer were to coach the terps or better yet, since there is soon to be only one black coach left in Div 1, how about Illinois' Mike Locksley,a guy who could help finish what ralph started. He has been killing UM all the way from Illinois, recruiting this area extremely well.He is from the area and coached the terps in the first few years of the fridge era.It is a tough decision for Debbie Yow to make, kids are graduating which is great.that being said at the end of the day, once those suites are done. Lets hope that there is enough of a fan base to actually fill them. my feeling is that all this negative news is going to hard to lift the cloud of futility from the program.I will leave my comments with a simple suggestion for Ralph or whomever may or may not be coaching going forward. Please stop with the MTSU's of the world step out and play some real competiton from some of the other B(C)S conferences even if they are bottom feeders. believe me i would much rather see a games versus an iowa state, indiana, miss state than eastern michigan's of the world. At least losing to a team from a top conference wont carry the ugly stigma of losing to n, illinois' and MTSU's of the world.playing more marquee games will bring more exposure to our program and maybe we can start to create some pipelines of our own in the process.I look forward to the days when people actually FEAR THE TURTLE.....AGAIN.

Charlotte took North Carolina? Great, just great. Maryland is far better served going at large than playing in a frozen wasteland against a team that doesn't want us in the first place. Go for Detroit or Houston.
