Seamonson Will Interim D-Coordinator

Prisbell is doing an online chat right now, but he wanted to pass along that Maryland has said that Al Seamonson will be the interim defensive coordinator and will handle the duties in the bowl game unless Coach Ralph Friedgen hires a permanent replacement for Chris Cosh rather soon. Seamonson is also a candidate to claim the job permanently.

Friedgen also said there is a chance linebacker Rick Costa could play in the bowl game and he expects to know in the next day or so.

I'm sure he'll have more soon.

Why is Dave Salazzo not being considered for this position? He is the most intense and visible guy on the sideline, and appears to know what he's doing in motivating the line. Does he not know how to coordinate, meaning he will be a position coach and recruiter for the rest of his life, or does Fridge not like that Dave gets more face time in the Under Armour commercials?

It could be that our D-line has been awful for a few years and that is Solazzo's responsibility.

You can't have a nut like Salazzo as a D-Coordinator. He's prefect in his role, firing the D up and being enthusiastic about the program.

kfrazec hass it right. Salazzo is greta at what he does but you need someone mroe calm and cerebral callign the shots. Shoot that was half the problem (Fridge was willing to recognize) with Cosh was thta he was too emotional...

Matt - what can you tell us about the search for a new D coordinator? has Ralph given you any insight as to the individuals or style of Defense he wants the terps to play next year?

Who do you think they should go after?

Anyone know if there have been any other names mentioned specifically as in consideration, aside from Seamonson?
