Should Terps Go Where They are Not Wanted?

So the Humanitarian Bowl's board of directors met and have decided to try to make the Boise State-Ball State battle of the unbeatens happen on Dec. 30. Here is the latest story out of Boise.

The ACC and potentially Maryland would have to sign off on giving up the slot, which is tied to the ACC's eighth selection. And I am not sure why they would. One college football official I spoke with this evening didn't think Maryland would give up a Boise bid -- especially with no ticket requirement --- to play in, say, a Detroit the day after Christmas.

On the other hand, why should Maryland travel 2,400 miles if it is not really wanted? Shift around practice schedules and play the Eagle Bank Bowl game against Navy, which would draw some interest in this area. The official said that is not out of the question.

Who else is left for the Eagle Bank anyway? Wake Forest already played Navy. NC State can't leapfrog a 7-5 team and is expected to head to an at-large slot.

If Maryland goes to Boise, you'll be playing a road game and everyone will be calling you "that non-descript ACC team." If Maryland goes to D.C. to play Navy, it at least will draw some interest among local fans. In the first year of the bowl, that would be the ideal matchup.

Do you want Maryland to play Navy or Boise State? Do you care? Do you fault the Boise Bowl folks for wanting Ball State over a "non-descript ACC team."

The Eagle Bank Bowl against Navy sounds like the best possible option. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a Boise-Ball matchup; it''' be the closest thing we'd have to a playoff in college football. Plus, Boise in late December is great for skiing but lousy for football. I'd rather be at a NEUTRAL site, any way.
MD-Navy would draw great interest in the region, which would draw more fans. Both teams seem evenly matched (although Navy can actually rush for positive yardage).
But if Charlotte calls, take it...

If we can get beer inside Nationals Park, let's go!

Sorry, meant RFK.

The Eagle Bank Bowl is actually interesting and would be good for local fan attention.

The ACC should not give up the Humanitarian bid without getting a guarantee from another at large bowl for an ACC bid. Personally, I'd lobby for two ACC bids to get all ten teams in.

Lastly, a BSU vs BSU match-up is an extraordinary idea if they can pull it off. It would essentially carry the weight of a BCS bowl in the public eye.

Forget Boise. Why the heck is the ACC even signed up with them in the first place? Let 'em go and take whoever they want. Charlotte is the best bet for the Terps, and if not there then Houston or Detroit. You might get at least some of us traveling to those games, but no one is going to go to Boise.

Home state draw is good and all, but Mountaineers-Terrapins would, I think, be a huge draw. We didn't play all those Thursday night games for nothing.

One more bloody win over Either Virginia or Middle Tennessee State and we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. Ugh.

Eagle Bank v. Navy - I'd be there in a heartbeat (and I don't like sitting out in cold weather)! Charlotte and WVU - awesome game, good rivalry, fans would travel! Forget Boise!

The TERPS would lose badly to W. Va.
The TERPS would be crushed by Boise State, and the fans would ridicule them.
The TERPS might have an even game against Navy.
(Put that game in a real stadium, in Baltimore, and it's a probable sell-out.)
Incidentally, while N.C. STATE has a record inferior to MARYLAND, right now the WOLFPACK is the better team.

I'd be at the Eagle Bank Bowl if Maryland were in it, in about a split second.

I have no interest in getting crushed in a road game to Boise. The Navy matchup would be a lot more fun, although certainly dissappointing after it looked like we had a shot at the ACC championship.
