Extra Practice On MLK Day
With winter session classes cancelled in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Maryland players had some free time Monday morning -- too much free time in Gary Williams's estimation. Rather than have the Terps just lay around all morning, Williams called them into the gym for some extra work on their shots.
It wasn't a bad idea. The Terps rank last in the ACC in field goal shooting percentage (41.7 percent) and second-to-last in three-point shooting percentage (31.3 percent). So, for roughly 25 minutes on the Comcast Center court, the team split up into two groups (guards and bigs) and performed some spot shooting drills.
"It was just a way to get additional practice for our team," senior forward Dave Neal said. "I think our team needs it, and it's something we'll probably do more often now."
