No Apologies From GW
On our college basketball chat earlier today, Eric and I were asked if Gary Williams would apologize for his team's performance on Saturday against Duke. We didn't have an answer then, but we do now ...
"We're 2-3 right now, but we've lost to the No. 1 team in the country on their court and we lost in overtime and we lost by two points for our three losses, so, I mean, I don't apologize," Williams said during an afternoon chat with local media. "I mean, I'd rather have won, you know, two of those three games, but we didn't. It's not like we played poorly until the Duke game Saturday. We played pretty well on the road, I thought."
So there you go.
In other news, Williams said sophomore forward Jerome Burney is practicing and could play tomorrow night against Boston College. Burney suited up on Saturday after missing more than a month with a stress fracture in his foot. He did not play against Duke.
Williams said the biggest concern with using Burney is the player's diminished conditioning level from sitting out for so long. Williams said there was a concern from a mental aspect, as well.
"When you have a foot injury, when you jump you don't want to be thinking about how you come down or whatever," Williams said.
I'll have more on Williams chat later today, including some of Gary's thoughts on recruiting in recent seasons. But right now, I have to get something prepared for tomorrow's print edition.
