One Boot On; One Boot Off

Freshman forward Steve Goins is not expected to play tomorrow night against Morgan State while he works himself back into shape after missing nearly two weeks due to pain in his lower left leg. But the fact that Goins is now able to actually work at all was welcome news to Gary Williams.

Williams said Goins was cleared yesterday to remove the protective boot from his left foot and resume working out with the Terps during workouts. It is not clear when Goins will be able to play in games.

"But what he does, especially with Morgan State and their size, he gives you a big guy to go against in practice," Williams said.

As for Jerome Burney, Williams said the sophomore forward remains in a boot after another exam was made on his right foot yesterday. No timetable has been set as to when Burney might be able to resume participating in team workouts.

"It's healing, but it's still not ready for the boot to come off yet," Williams said. "This time of year, you're just really focussed on who can play. And it's not that we don't care about Jerome or anything like that. He's doing what he can do. That's all you can do."
