Terps Onward And Upward

When asked today at his sitdown with a group of reporters whether the team had gotten over the sting of Wednesday night's one-point loss to Morgan State, Gary Williams claimed it had and that the focus has shifted fully to tomorrow's ACC opener against Georgia Tech.

"I knew it was going to be a tough game and I knew because of where the game fell, it was going to be a problem in terms of our focus, with Charlotte and Georgia Tech on either side of that game, so we got caught," Williams said. "But at 11-3 going into the ACC season, it really doesn't matter whether you're 12-2 or 11-3. What matter's is what you do the next 16 games. If you go 7-9 in the league, you probably go home. If you go 9-7, you're still playing. And that's whether you're 12-2 or 11-3. So, you move on."

Next up, the Terps face a Yellow Jackets squad that apparently will be boosted by the presence of sophomore point guard Maurice Miller, who missed the past three weeks after suffering a broken nose. According to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Miller will suit up Saturday and likely play while wearing a Richard Hamilton-esque mask.

"It gives them more depth, and it gives them a player that knows how to play," Williams said. "They've been a little thin coming off the bench, so I think that's the big thing. So it expands their bench a little bit, but we have to play our game this time of year. You can't make adjustments. You make adjustments within what you do. We're not going to change a lot of things for anybody we play against, no matter who the opponent is."

Gary should be a lawyer. This statement is 100% true "But at 11-3 going into the ACC season, it really doesn't matter whether you're 12-2 or 11-3. What matter's is what you do the next 16 games. If you go 7-9 in the league, you probably go home. If you go 9-7, you're still playing. And that's whether you're 12-2 or 11-3. So, you move on."

Of course if you go 8-8 in the ACC the difference between 12-2 and 11-3 might be an 8 seed in the dance or the NIT...
