ACC Women's Tournament Pairings Announced

The Maryland women won their first ACC regular season title since 1989 with their 89-64 win at Miami today, and they'll be the top seed in the tournament, which begins on Thursday in Greensboro, N.C. The Terrapins will play either No. 8 N.C. State or No. 9 Wake Forest on Friday at 3 p.m.; they beat both teams handily in the regular season: 92-65 over Wake Forest (Jan. 8) and 87-66 over N.C. State (Feb. 5).

Here are the full pairings; all games will be played at Greensboro Coliseum:

Thursday, March 5
11 a.m.: No. 5 Georgia Tech vs. No. 12 Clemson
3 p.m.: No. 8 N.C. State vs. No. 9 Wake Forest
6 p.m.: No. 7 Boston College vs. No. 10 Miami
8 p.m.: No. 6 Virginia vs. Seed No. 11 Virginia Tech

Friday, March 6
11 a.m.: No. 4 North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech/Clemson
3 p.m.: No. 1 Maryland vs. N.C. State/Wake Forest
6 p.m.: No. 2 Florida State vs. Boston College/Miami
8 p.m.: No. 3 Duke vs. Virginia/Virginia Tech

Saturday, March 7
1 p.m.: Semifinal (11 a.m. vs. 3 p.m. winners)
3:30 p.m.: Semifinal (6 p.m. vs. 8 p.m. winners)

Sunday, March 8
1 p.m.: Final

The Terrapins, who are the only team to have beaten every other ACC team at least once this season, are clearly the favorites. Who do you think is their biggest threat?

Meant that FSU is their tougest out. But Christy T is playing outta her mind right now. She's literally unstoppable. Her performance last week against Duke was one of the greatest shooting performances I've ever seen from either men or women. Connecticut nay be a pro team, but besides them, Maryland should do very well in the 2A tourney.

The Washington Post. Brenda Frese has been way to successful without a three-part story undermining the program.

Carolina. If it's one thing the ACC tournament seeding times have shown us, it's that the evening game winner is always dragging their feet at a 3:30 tip. Carolina will actually get extra sleep with this scheduling. It almost would have been better to finish 4th, the way these games are timed.

UNC will be a very tough out.

They always are. But despite having basically a home court advantage, the Tar Heels really are not Terp caliber this season. Terps completely outplayed the Heels here and this year Md simply is superior. FSU is tough but they haven't beaten any1 big in the ACC away from home. This is the Terps year. Christy is enfuego.

Terps aren't playing in the evening. So it's not that big a deal. Heels will have about a 5 hour advantage on us when we meet. Not a factor.

Agreed. However, Duke and FSU will be (particularly Duke), and will be gassed by Sunday. Hence, UNC.

I think their biggest competition will be themselves. Since the Terps don't have a deep bench, Kristi and Marissa will have to play a lot of minutes. I'm worried about them getting tired, especially if they make it to the championship game.

On the other hand, those two have been playing lights out. Man, are they fun to watch! I am sooo going to miss them next year.

Depth is a problem, but they are magical right now.

IMHO, the President should bring his daughters to the Comcast Center to watch the first 2 rounds of the NCAA. It would be a whole lot more uplifting than a Bulls-Wizards brawl.

By the end of this Sunday afternoon, the ACC will FEAR THE TURTLE.

The NCAA will be next in line to FEAR THE TURTLE.

GO TERPS.
