Saturday's ACC Tournament Viewing Guide

This is Zach Berman, providing a quick glimpse of what to watch while you count down toward Sunday’s unveiling of the NCAA tournament bracket…

No. 1 North Carolina vs. No. 4 Florida State, 1:30 – Neither the Tar Heels nor the Seminoles won convincingly on Friday, although both proved able to make plays in the game’s final moments. With North Carolina guard Ty Lawson sidelined, the key to this meeting is whether backup point guard Bobby Frasor can stay with Florida State’s Toney Douglas, who was a candidate for Lawson’s ACC player of the year. When asked about the loss of Lawson after Friday’s game, Virginia Tech Coach Seth Greenberg was quick to remind that Frasor was a McDonald’s All-American and a heralded recruit out of high school. He must play like that to ensure the Tar Heels reach Sunday.

No. 3 Duke vs. No. 7 Maryland, 3:30 – The Terrapins made it this far, but the Blue Devils provide a stiffer test than either North Carolina State or Wake Forest. Although Duke barely outlasted Boston College on Friday night, it beat Maryland twice this season. Duke’s players acknowledged the difficulty of beating a team three times, and three players independentaly mentioned how Maryland is hot and there are no secrets between the teams at this point of the season. Although Maryland is likely safe for the NCAA tournament, there are some conference champion possibilities (San Diego State, Baylor, Duquesne/Temple) that could at least make Selection Sunday interesting. A Terrapins win would serve as a definitive stamp.

Mr Berman makes a good point that Maryland doesn't yet have a lock on a NCAA bid, whatever other commentators like Mr Feinstein may say. It would be marvelous if our Terps beat Duke today. They can do it. I'd trade an ACC tournament championship for a NCAA bid. Maybe we'll get both. Time will tell.

I'm rooting for a Carolina-less ACC championship game. Who wouldn't want a MD vs. FSU title game? If the Noles beat the Heels and we knock off the Pukies, just imagine the looks on Dukie V and Billy Packer's faces.

It's about time the Wolfpack wins a game, no? What better team to victimize than our Terps?

Great win for the Terps- and Gary did a masterful job coaching!! Vasquez has really matured as a person and player the last month of the season! Dave Neal is not the most talented player but he is a very valuable player and his leadership cannot be measured. Now Barno you can cut and paste all the crap you want from me but I really do not care but bottomline is this yr has shown-Gary Williams without a question there is not a better coach in the college game right now! Now recruiting that is another story but there is no sense raining on the parade!!! They do have talent and can play with the big boys now it would be nice to have a big man but we will wait til next yr and happily sit back and watch this determined MD team finish the final chapter of a great and "soap opera" filled season!!!!

We haven't one 3 ACC games in a row. Today would be a great day to break that trend. One more win and we can all breath easier.

In the event of a win...........

Will Gary jump up and down, like against UVA a couple of years ago?

Debbie, Ms. Worthington and Bruno are the only Terp "fans" that are ticked off right now.

Go Terps!

MD is a not a top 50 program and has limited talent right now and it is because of recruiting! Those are the facts! You can put out all your crappy facts and irrelevant stats but the results are on the court!!

Hey Terptime,

Nice ad hominem there. Got any relevant comments to your earlier posts?

Tiger, you are talking way over Terptime's head there. I highly doubt he knows what ad hominem means.
