The Power Of Senior Night
Dave Neal knows full well the kind of emotional impact senior night can have on a player performing in front of his home crowd for the final time. On Tuesday, Neal tallied 19 points and hit crucial three after crucial three in the second half to make things interesting against No. 10 Wake Forest.
Yesterday, Neal and the Terps witnessed the senior night aura from the opposite view. Virginia forward Mamadi Diane dazzled Cavaliers one final time, recording 23 points on 7 of 12 shooting. He also hit 3 of 4 shots from three-point range, including the decisive dagger with 38.5 seconds left to put Virginia on top for good.
Colleague Zach Berman took a closer look at Diane's big day.
Neal, speaking from experience, said there's not a whole lot you can do to contain a senior intent on leaving his home court with a bang.
"Mamadi Diane went off," Neal said. "It was his senior night and he made the most of it."
