Don't listen to the haters Gary. We love you. You can stay and coach at UMD long after you pass on.

We'll prop you up, Weekend At Bernies-style, and you can still coach and throw your arms around and yell.

Plus we (the Terps) beat both teams in the NCAA championship game this year. And of course, everyone knows, by that logic, the 2009 UMD basketball team is so much better than both UNC and Mich. State.

Go Terps!!!

Props to Gary, but the Post All-Met appeared this AM, and I didn't see any Maryland recruits on it. Those guys that chose Villanova and Pitt are all bought and paid for? Did we even recruit them?

Posted by: Samson151 | April 8, 2009 3:03 PM | Report abuse

Dave Neal: All Met
Adrian Bowie: All Met
Grievis Vasquez: All Met
Eric Hayes: All Met

Why would we recruit the guys that chose Villanova and Pitt? We already have 2 top 100 forwards coming in next year and possibly the number 1 shooting guard in the country. Who cares where they come from, as long as they are studs.

============================

Do you have even have anything that could possibly remotely be considered evidence to back this up?

Is this what it's come to? If a top recruit doesn't sign with UMD that must mean he's been bought? As if no top recruit would want to play for a team that made it deeper into the NCAAs than UMD.

Wow. Talk about being delusional.

I think it has been well established that Poopy is not an intelligent person. The above comments just further solidified this fact.

I can just see Poopy sitting at his computer trying to log in as HughGrection but can't remember the password, so he'll have to create yet another handle to try to annoy people with.

"Biggest loser of all time" does not begin to describe this guy.

Whatever it takes to get you to leave the Terrapin Insider blog. No one one here wants you here, no one. You're an unbelievable imbecile, and it's about time you got the point. Go ahead, create a new screen name you geek. Just do it somewhere else.

I think I'll stay right here, thank you very much.

I love coming here and talking about our beloved Terps with everyone.

What some people don't like, though, is if you don't drink kool-aid, live more in reality, and can point out a programs flaws. Some people just want to see what they want to see and when someone else comes along and shoes them something else, they cringe.

Hey Brian.

Not Poopy. MD grad 1987 and a huge Gary fan. Was there for the fall of Bias.

Am excited about the new recruits coming in and although I have not posted in the past, was quite disgusted by the lack of logic applied by the Post in the multipart smearing of Gary. Sometimes recruits do not work out, sometimes they do. One thing to note in the wake of the UNC NCAA championship is that MD has NEVER had a class of studs like UNC has had for its last two championships. Indeed, in winning our NCAA championship, MD beat a UConn team full of first rate lottery-pick studs AND DEMOLISHED a Kansas team that had a similar level of talent to this years and Sean May's UNC teams. Heck, even Duke had a bunch of studs that year. One more point - you lose Miller, Morris and Mardesich and add Randle and win an NCAA? That is great coaching. Note that the recruiting classes immediately AFTER the NCAA championship were actually considered on par with the best classes in the country. It just did not work out once Jamar Smith left (no one in the middle).

That said, I am a Gary fan, a MD fan who actually gets a kick out of this board - sometimes because of Poopy. He does have an ability to cut and paste a few lines from previous posts and get multiple folks to respond with several paragraph bashings and needless accusations. I do hope he is doing the same to other schools as well - especially the Wahoos.

One final point. I genuinely hope Gary and UMD do something about the abysmal graduation rates. pointing out that several players are making $$ in Europe is not the same as "we had xx lottery picks." 10% is unacceptable - especially when compared to the competition within our own conference.

Posted by: HughGRection | April 10, 2009 11:46 AM | Report abuse

And yeah, it does say something positive for the program that they beat both teams in the NCAA. Now if they had only showed up to play against Memphis...

Posted by: HughGRection | April 10, 2009 12:09 PM | Report abuse

HughG, as others on here have pointed out before and what you and (coincidentally?) Poopy fail to realize about that 10% figure is that a kid that tranfers counts as not graduating becuase the NCAA is too lazy to track graduation rates of transfers. So Danny Miller, Andre Collins, Hassan Fofana, Matt Salenka, Shane Walker, Gus Gilchrist etc all count against MD. That's a lot of players who may have graduated or will graduate elsewhere but according to the official statistics they did not graduate period, simply becuase they transferred.

Sure everyone plays by the same rules, but not every school has had as many tranfers as we have had. And the fact that these kids count against you makes the entire statistic a joke.

Last but not least, if you graduated in 87, that would make you what, mid 40s? What is a 40+ year old man doing with a screen name like that? I'm sorry, but I agree with Brianxp, it's obvious you are Poopy. But even if you are if you want to behave like that (more maturely) under this new screen name, by all means stick around.

Posted by: terpsfan09 | April 10, 2009 1:50 PM | Report abuse

I don't know Terpsfan09, I don't think HughG is Poopy Mc-No-Life.

It is easy to look at the Grad rates, and if you don't completely understand how screwed up the system is, be appalled at the low #.

Now Petecard and Restonhoops may be a different story. I think it's entirely possible that they are Mc-Dumbass but, who really knows, right?

Posted by: Section505203 | April 10, 2009 2:07 PM | Report abuse

terpsfan09 -

Shane Walker and Gus Gilchrist count against MD? Did they ever spend a day on campus? do you mean Matt Slalinka - the guy who transferred out just prior to the NC?

Does anyone know the stats on the ones who stayed for at least four years post NC - Mike Jones, DJ, garrison, etc.?

Not gonna say it again. Not Poopy. btw - no apologies on the screen name.

Regards -

HGR

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Thank God (not Gary the God) some of you all aren't police detectives or private investigators because you all stink with your guesses and hunches that petecard, restonhoops, hughgrection, and myself are all the same person.

Every time I see one of you all accusing x-person of also being y-person and z-person I chuckble b/c it's not even remotely true, yet here you all are day in and day out thinking its the case.

ahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahah

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | April 10, 2009 4:58 PM | Report abuse

Poopy,

I am going to make an accusation that I am not you and you are not me. Take that. Moreover, I am not petecard or restonhoops. That said, without sipping a drop of kool-aid, Gary is a very good coach in a consistently tough conference who has earned a few passes. Disagree with firing him anytime soon, especially given the hypoallergenic cleanliness of the program he has run. Would like to see MD name a successor to him within the next few years a la Franklin for football for continuity's and recruiting's sakes. But would really like to see a couple of effective big men deliver an inside game so that we are competing at the highest levels again. Still am bitter that the missing NBA player named Bison Dele (Brian Williams) left MD for Arizona (during Bob Wade).

And I stand by what I said on an earlier post...this board is far more interesting when you show up, even if you repeat the same bashings over and over and over.

Respectful regards to all -

HGR

"Shane Walker and Gus Gilchrist count against MD? Did they ever spend a day on campus?"

Dude, Shane Walker was a valuable reserve last season...of course he spend time on campus. He really could have been a factor this year, but transferred when it looked like Gilchrist would be the starting center. Then Gilchrist transferred and it was too late for Walker to come back. But he definitely counts against us in the graduation stats.

Brian - My bad on Walker.

In all seriousness, did Gilchrist spend a day on campus? Did he have to sit after transferring?

We need some bigs.

It's so great to see the FOG Koolaid drinkers go after people who want a better program.

The way you idiots attack people and try to provide a psychological profile is really funny. brianxp thinks he's Freud!

And it's so funny with all of your conspiracy theories...like a number of us are the same person! What a laugh.

The attention you give to Poopy is beyond hilarious. Poopy says a lot of wierd and idiotic things, but he makes some great points and he sure stirs the pot. That is a good thing because there is NOTHING happening with the program right now.

Let's start a pool: pick the date that Lance will announce he is NOT coming to Maryland. The second bet will be how long after the announcement Gary finds out...the overunder is October 1

C'mon all of you FOG's, let's hear about how the Terps are going to win one or two in the ACC.

Posted by: petecard | February 18, 2009 11:05 AM

Don't bother to make your MSG reservations. They won't get that far in the NIT.

Posted by: petecard | February 18, 2009 11:05 AM

Let's face it. We are toast.

Another disappointing season with a team that just doesn't measure up.

We aren't even a factor in the ACC, much less nationally.

Missing the tournament for the 4th time in 5 years is simply unacceptable.

Our program is a real disappointment and I am disgusted.

Let's hear it Koolaid drinkers.

Posted by: petecard | March 9, 2009 6:30 PM

Gary should use the game against NC State to get ready for the NIT.

Maryland plays in the NIT so often it should consider becoming the title sponsor.

Turtle Soup, brought to you by Gary Williams. Simply warm and serve.

Posted by: petecard | March 9, 2009 8:56 AM

Barno,

We ARE toast. You think beating NC State means anything?

Why not just deal with the bottom line: We are going to miss the tournament this year for the 4th time in 5 years.

Unacceptable.

Gary's responsibility.

Posted by: petecard | February 19, 2009 10:32 AM

Right now we have a mediocre program.

The FOG's think Gary should be able to write his own ticket.

Posted by: petecard | March 1, 2009 10:22 AM

Gary's contract will be up in 2-3 years. That's where the focus should be.

spring football practice is half over. i got fed up with WaPo and went looking for myself and found this:

"Posted by: HughGRection"

You've got to be kidding me...

Gilchrist leaving was truly unfortunate. The kid had spent tons of time practicing with the Terps and word was he seemed like the best big man on the court. Must more of an offensive player than Gist and Osby. For some reason his 'advisors' felt he needed the get back 4 years of eligibility, and when the ruling went against him, he bolted. A dumb move not unlike Hassan Fofana's transfer a few years back, but them things happen. Can't hold the coaches accountable -- they did everything possible for the young man.

No, the thing that still has to be determined is why other schools are drawing the Metro area stars to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Durham. This was a relatively strong year for HS basketball here (note the results of that Capital Classic game), and yet we drew nobody to College Park. I know Padgett and Jordan Williams are excellent players, but I don't think either is any better prospect than Mouphtaou Yarou, Dante Taylor, Josh Hairston, or Tahlib Zanna.

Like to see some of those local guys stay closer to home. And so would the fans, I think.

Isn't the football team having a little thing called spring practice right now? Ummmm, no word on that?

Posted by: Lee26 | April 13, 2009 8:21 AM | Report abuse

Here are a few things about the Terps that I have said consistently wrong:

They are not competitive with the better programs in the conference. Losing record overall and 7th place finish.

They have mediocre talent.

Their Koolaid drinking fans thinks its great if they make the tournament (twice in 5 years) and win one game.

That's the real bottom line. Our program is not nearly what it could/should be. And a big, big part of that is that fans like Barno and brianxp don't demand more. They are to in love with Gary.....

Posted by: petecard | April 13, 2009 11:11 AM | Report abuse

I have said consistently all along....

Was that a Freudian slip brian????

Posted by: petecard | April 13, 2009 11:12 AM | Report abuse

Not Brian, but yes, yes it was....

They are the 3rd best program in the ACC and have been for a good 12-15 years now. You can take that to the bank.

The funny thing is you claim that several of us are the same people. I think you are all Barno. Gary's caddy who doesn't want the good life to end. Just read ESPNs top 25 for next year taking in all the early departures that have been announced. Butler, Xavier, Dayton, and Gonzaga are all in the pre season top 25. No mention of MD. I'm so tired of being a non factor on the national scene. That may do it for you, but not for me. I will dance a jig the day Gary leaves whether its in a year or 10.

Posted by: restonhoops | April 13, 2009 6:24 PM | Report abuse

Um, it's BLATANTLY obvious Petecard and Restonhoops are the same person. Numerous people have stated this. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that you both appear and dissapear at the same time, use the exact same terminology to describe your hatred of Gary Williams, and last but not least you both have the IQ of a toaster.

You are not a MD basketball fan if you will "dance a jig the day Gary leaves." Plain and simple. You can claim you are a fan all you want, but you aren't one.

Posted by: brianxp | April 13, 2009 8:40 PM | Report abuse

I like how Brian gets to decided who is and isn't a fan of the Terps.

Obviously if you expect/want the Terps to be a Top 25 program and not settle for .500-ball than you're not a Terps fan.

Thanks Bry, for letting everyone know who is and isn't a Terps fans, since you get to decide who is and isn't.

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | April 13, 2009 9:15 PM | Report abuse

To the village idiot:

You can put words in my mouth all you want, but I never said nor implied anything about those who "expect/want the Terps to be a Top 25 program and not settle for .500-ball than you're not a Terps fan."

But if you are on a Terps message board posting comments about dancing a jig when Gary leaves, then you are clearly not a fan of the Terps basketball. This is not debatable.

Posted by: brianxp | April 13, 2009 10:06 PM | Report abuse

sorry big brian. Love the terps and have never liked Gary's style from day one. You don't have to like the coach of your favorite team. There is no such rule in the book of fandom.

First of all, I never said nor implied you "have to like the coach of your favorite team" nor anything remotely like that. So please, stop putting words in my mouth.

What I said was if you are going to "dance a jig when Gary leaves" you're not a MD fan.

Again, this is not debatable.

Where are the updates on football?

Posted by: HughGRection | April 14, 2009 2:07 PM | Report abuse

I think one of the local radio shows broke it down the best and the funny part is the host was pro Gary. When the Kentucky job was open that had a segment about well if the Kentucky job is one of the top 5 in the country what is the MD job. After going through each conference and talking about pros and cons of various schools MD came out as a boderline top 10 job though the host admitted in its present state its not even a top 25 program and barely even top 40. When you have such a descreptency as this its clear the coach needs to be changed to one that reflects where the program should be on a national basis.

Posted by: restonhoops | April 14, 2009 2:07 PM | Report abuse

Reston, nowhere in your rambling, incoherent response did you come close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. We are all dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Posted by: Barno1 | April 14, 2009 3:16 PM | Report abuse

Maybe this will be clearer. MD is a joke on the national scene. The last time we were ranked in the top 10 was about 6 years ago. If we don't get Stephenson and GV leaves MD is a bottom 3 ACC team and will be on the outside looking in again. But by all means Gary is great and can do no wrong so let's not get fresh blood in here like Sean Miller that just went to AZ. If Bennet gets VA turned around things will be even tougher for MD going forward under the Gary regime. I say yes to regime change!

Posted by: restonhoops | April 14, 2009 3:31 PM | Report abuse

Question then:

Who would MD be able to get who would clearly deliver better results than Gary? Remember, when Gary was hired, it was not just that he was an alum, it was also that he had won everywhere he had been....including AU.

Posted by: HughGRection | April 14, 2009 3:57 PM | Report abuse

Miller was one I was looking at. The other two prime candidates in my mind right now are Wright at Nova and Capel from OK. Both young guys, good coaches who can recruit. MD is a higher profile basketball school than either of their two locations right now. I want someone who can go toe to toe with Roy Williams and take a recruit away from him.

Posted by: restonhoops | April 14, 2009 4:01 PM | Report abuse

BTW since we are deciding who is and is not a fan of MD I say that someone who is passionate about their team being the absolute best they can be is the real fan. I think you FOGs are fans of Gary Williams and not of MD. So when he leaves when ever that is don't let the door hit you on the back side.

Posted by: restonhoops | April 14, 2009 4:05 PM | Report abuse

Restonhoops just said fans of Gary Williams should leave when Gary leaves!!!!!

HAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

If all the fans of Gary leave, there will be three (3) fans still attending MD games at that point: Restonhoops, Petecard, and Poopy Mc-No-Life. Oh, except those are all the same person. Oh, and except that person doesn't even attend MD games!! So no one will be at Comcast Center at that point!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

You're not a real bright one are you McPoopcard from Reston, Va?

And I just love how the very same person who was so certain the Terps were going to win 5 games this year and miss the NIT (let alone the NCAA tourney) is now so damn certain that the Terps will be in the bottom 3 in the ACC next year.

Yeah seriously. Get the little kids out of here! Only an idiot would think MD would be better off without Gary Williams. Who are you people?! I have never met anyone who roots for the Terps who hates Gary Williams...ever...It doesn't even make sense!!?!?!

Honestly really beginning to wonder about this. Are we sure these are not DUKE fans trying to mess up this board????? Hmmmmm. comments from Reston-Petetard about "Turtle Soup, by Gary Williams" are not things normal MD fans say. Not by a long shot. And Poopy's comments?? I mean, no one is THAT stupid, come on.

I think we are dealing with one or possibly more Duke fans on our board using the names Petetard/Poopy McPoopy/reston,va. That is the only logical explanation at this point.

Discuss.

Terpsfan09,

You may be on to something about the Duke fans infiltrating the Terps Insider and stirring things up.

Because you are right, no one is that stupid to think that this program is better off without Gary. You would have to be a huge Jackass to think that. Hell, even Duke fans probably don't really think that.
