Such a Thing as Too Much 'Vim and Vigor'?

Maryland pushed back the start of fall practice by a few hours because of the stifling heat in College Park today. That was just fine with the players, though many expressed a sense of restlessness at the countdown until the season officially began.

Coach Ralph Friedgen knows the players will be in no short supply of energy and enthusiasm when the team takes the field around 7 p.m. In fact, he's a little concerned his players might be too jacked up, considering they won't be wearing pads.

"That's what worries me today is you can't be in pads and they're going to be full of vim and vigor, and I worry about getting somebody hurt because they don't have any pads on," Friedgen said earlier this afternoon. "They're going to go just as hard without pads as they would with pads. I got to have a meeting here at 2:30 to tell them they're not going to impress me when they're playing in their underwear. Until they get their pads on, they're not going to impress me."

Well Fridge, the way to impress UMD fans and graduates is to stop putting up .500-ish seasons.

Poopy, Barno,

We'll see who is right soon enough. 14-0 and a NC until proven otherwise.
