Dion Armstrong's Grades, Physical Condition in Doubt

Maryland Coach Ralph Friedgen had said that nose tackle Dion Armstrong’s eligibility remained in doubt and it was not known when Friedgen would know whether Armstrong would be available this season.

Now Friedgen says that another issue is Armstrong’s physical condition. (Armstrong is practicing with the team as he awaits word on his eligibility.)

“I don’t know where he is at,” Friedgen said. “He is not in very good shape. He has a lot of potential. I don’t know if he is going to make it. I don’t know if he is where we want him to be from a physical standpoint. I’m trying to be patient. But he needs to start working a little harder if he is going to make our football team.”

Obviously, defensive line is a significant concern. How important is it that Armstrong is academically eligible? Do you feel comfortable with the line without Armstrong? Or do you think he would make a big difference?
