Poll: Which Team Does a Better Job Keeping Local Talent at Home
Steve Yanda and I wrote a story for today’s newspaper on the emerging recruiting rivalry between Maryland and Rutgers. I grew up in New Jersey and everyone always talked about how much talent there was in the state, and how little of it wound up at Rutgers. Things have changed a little bit as Coach Greg Schiano has gotten the team going a few years ago. Then I moved here from California back in 2003 and people again talked about talent leaving the area.
In New Jersey, it usually was Penn State, Notre Dame, Syracuse or Boston College coming in to pluck players. Some others, as well.
In the Washington area, it seems like it’s Penn State, Illinois, North Carolina, North Carolina State. Some others, as well.
My question: Which team – Rutgers or Maryland – has done a better job keeping local talent at home in recent years?

What? Where's the mention on The Insider about the lady-Terps soccer game last night?
I'm sure Barno must be up-in-arms over the lack of coverage because since he's Terp Fan #1 I know he was watching the game.
Heartbreaking loss for the lady-Terps. Where's the coverage?!?!?!?!

I mean I watched the 1st half yesterday until my DCU game came on and expected to be able to find some coverage of the match here on Terps Insider.
Guess not. Barno must be throwing a fit at how the lady-Terps are getting disrespected.

Ugh. Not this old, tired, pointless argument again. For christ's sake people, who cares where the players come from?
Friedgen still gets top players in the state of Georgia, where he worked for a number of years. We're not supposed to recruit first team ALL ACC performers like Stephon Heyer or CJ Brooks, because they're from Georgia and not MD?
We're not supposed to recruit stud players like Alex Wujciak, D'Qwell Jackson...guys like Andrew Crummey, Phil Costa, or Dre Moore, or Adam Podlesh...because they didn't play high school ball in the state of Maryland? Please.
We shouldn't recruit Vernon Davis, because he played in DC and not MD?
Seriously, recruiting geeks need to shut the f up. Where our recruits come from is irrelevant.
