Wide Receivers Looking to Improve

I had not taken a close look at the performance of Maryland’s wide receivers until a couple days ago. There was so much hype about the wide receivers in preseason camp. Against California, Adrian Cannon led the way with five catches for 30 yards. Among wide receivers, Ronnie Tyler, who had two catches for 25 yards, and Torrey Smith, who had one catch for 29 yards, were the only others to catch a ball. Offensive coordinator James Franklin said some of the wide receivers did not look like the same guys who had excelled in camp.

“A lot had really good camps, but very few had to be the guy,” Franklin said. “They looked like different guys, they weren’t the same guys. I think they are going to bounce back. We have to grow from this and build some confidence. They can play much better than how they played.”
