Friedgen: 'We Can't Relax'

One interesting thing to emerge from Tuesday’s news conference was that Coach Ralph Friedgen felt some players relaxed a little in practice Monday and in the weight room following Saturday’s 24-21 victory over Clemson.

That is a concern, obviously, because Maryland’s margin for error is slim, and the Terrapins need supreme focus when they play their second road game of the season Saturday at Wake Forest.

“The thing I worry a little bit with our players right now is, they have been working so hard to get better, and the ball bounced our way Saturday and we were able to get a win,” Friedgen said. “I think it is human nature to just want to go ‘ahh’ and relax. But we can’t relax. We have got to keep going, we have got to keep working.”

Friedgen said he cracked down on them in Monday’s practice. I won’t find out about Tuesday’s practice until tonight’s meeting with Friedgen.

“I know how they feel,” Friedgen said, “but I am not going to allow them to do it.”

This is a young team, and who knows how they handle a little success. Who else is concerned about this?

I think they just needed to experience some success to build their confidence. The team knows it has weaknesses but the energy level is higher when you have some hope of success. Terps should win at Wake because they are simply more talented. The key is not to look past the next game.

I remember this one time in college when I was tripping my ballz off on some really good acid, I went to the Maryland-Duke game and I was wearing Maryland colors but I was rooting for Duke. I confused everyone in the student section, it was so awesome!
