Playing For the Future?
Barring an unforeseen turn of events, Maryland will finish the season on Nov. 28 against Boston College and not play in a bowl game. At some point, the talk around the team and the questions to the coaches will be about playing for next season. That talk may have already begun, even though we are just beyond the halfway mark in October.
Coach Ralph Friedgen told reporters in Sunday’s teleconference that, if losing should continue, he has to consider what’s best for the future of the team and, therefore, get playing time for backup quarterbacks Jamarr Robinson and/or Danny O’Brien. Neither quarterback will solve all the team's problems this season, obviously. But it would be a help to head into next season having quarterbacks with at least some decent level of experience. Should they use O’Brien for this role this season? I also wonder how much good it would be for either quarterback to play behind this offensive line. And where does this leave senior starter Chris Turner?
Which quarterback should see the most action over the remainder of the season?
