Wanted: More Wide Receivers to Emerge

Maryland Coach Ralph Friedgen made a point to talk up wide receiver Adrian Cannon, who had four catches for 48 yards and two touchdowns against Wake Forest. Coaches praised Cannon throughout preseason camp, but he has struggled to be consistent in games. Torrey Smith obviously is Maryland’s go-to wide receiver. But Friedgen wants and needs someone else to emerge, as well.

“Adrian made a few plays,” Friedgen said. “He really gave us something. We need someone else to come around other than Torrey. We have got to get other guys involved.”

How about running back Gary Douglas, who had three catches for 70 yards Saturday?

One problem is the offensive line, which has given quarterback Chris Turner about 1.5 seconds to throw the ball. Only so much you can do with that.

Wide receivers can only emerge if Turner has time to thrown them the ball!!!!

We have a group of very capable receivers that get open and typically run crisp routes, but no matter how good that crew is, it doesn't change the fact that a QB cannot throw the ball when he's lying on his back. Sure there have been a lot of drop this season (Ronnie Tyler!!!), but at least half of those were because the throws were coming early or not quite on target because of intense pressure on Turner. The O-Line MUST improve. There were more olays by the OL on Saturday than you see during a week of bullfighting in Pamplona. This line is simply PATHETIC, and without a consistant running game to keep the defense honest (the only running play that was working was the QB draw, AGAIN!!), the D-line is just going to lick their chops look for Turner's head on a silver platter.

The needed emergence of wide receivers is the LEAST of this offenses problems!

Kenny Tate should NEVER have been moved from WR to Safety.
