Women's basketball signs No. 2 recruiting class in country
The women's basketball team announced the signing of five players on Thursday, a group that is rated as the No. 2 class in the country by HoopGurlz. (ACC rival Duke has the top-ranked group.)
Guard Alyssa Thomas (Central Dauphin/Harrisburg, Pa.), forward Whitney Bays (Huntington/Huntington, W.Va.), and guard Laurin Mincy (University/Newark, N.J.) are ranked in the top 25 of the ESPNU HoopGurlz 100, though both Bays and Mincy will miss this season following ACL surgery. Post Alicia Devaughn (Blanche Ely/West Palm Beach, Fla.) and guard Natasha Cloud (Cardinal O'Hara/Broomall, Pa.) are top 100 players.
"They definitely bring some serious firepower and will allow us to be a very dynamic offensive team that will be a lot of fun to watch," Coach Brenda Frese said in a statement. "They're all unselfish, team-first and unselfish passers. They each compete hard and are winners."
