With school out, Terps rearrange daily schedule

The Terrapins finished up finals last week and will get a brief break from their studies until they each take a course during the winter session of classes, which begins Jan. 4. But until then, with the campus all but barren and little else to focus on but basketball, Coach Gary Williams said this can be something of an adjustment period for his players.

"The tough time is when nobody’s here and there’s nothing to do but practice," Williams said. "You get out of a routine. You might sleep later than normal. You don’t eat right. All those things go into it, so you try to stay as busy as you can."

To aid in that regard, Williams said the coaching staff will bring in the players each morning to Comcast Center to watch game film before practice in the afternoon.

"It's good to be on a schedule," Williams said. "We have a long break. We don’t start school until January (25). You have to be able to deal with it; it’s just as simple as that. You have no choice."

Comments

Since after more than 70 posts to "Looking Toward the Future" new comments have been cut-off, I want to share some additional thoughts...as follows.

The Fog’s have spoken and here is what they are saying:

“Petecard, your criteria for Elite Status are too difficult…how can you require 3 Elite Eights in 10 years?”

“Petecard, what about teams that don’t even make the NIT in a season?”

“Petecard, rather than setting your own too-high criteria, look at these obscure websites that say we were among the best…”

Here is what the FOG’s don’t/won’t do:

They won’t talk about the last 6 years.
They won’t deal with the facts (actual records).

So let me put it as simply as I can:

The NIT doesn’t mean “jack.”
The Terps are behind 40 teams in their performance in the National Championship Tournament over the past 6 years.
40 other teams have been to “the Dance” at least 3 times and have made the Sweet 16 at least 1 time. The Terps have NOT made 1 Sweet 16.
40 teams over 6 years have a better record.

Here are 2 questions for the FOG’s”

1.How do you think we will do this year relative to the 40 schools that are ahead of us?
2.What are you going to say if we don’t get better?

And a final thought…

In the latest AP poll 9 schools in the ACC are rated ahead of Maryland. Now I know the AP Poll is only a poll and we have a lot of basketball to play, but... how do you really feel about where we stand 10/11 games into the season???????

But start with the first issue: WHAT ABOUT THE LAST 6 YEARS???

Wow, maybe you should get a job. Seriously, how do you spend so much time on this blog leaving a novel's worth of comments every time?

You either like Maryland or you don't. If you don't, then you REALLY need to find a job. If you do, just shut up and watch the team. As far as I know, you aren't a Division I athletic director, so forgive me if I don't take your opinions at their word. Don't sit on here all night and day and argue your point that they suck and that all the fans need to agree with you. Guess what? Sometimes even when teams don't go to the Final Four every season...people still root for them. If you don't think they're good enough for your standards then stop paying attention.

Actually, I will just stop paying attention to you...

Petecard, I've been reading this blog from the get-go but have only commented on occasion when I think it's necessary. Here's my take:

I think the issue most of the readers of this blog have with you is not with your viewpoint that MD is mediocre. No it's not that at all. I think the real issue people have with you is that you come off as a complete and total moron. No offense, but that's just how I see it. There are plenty of perfectly reasonable criticisms to make of this team and of Gary Williams. I've seen others make good points here in this regard. Gary isn't perfect, nor is this team. Unfortunately, the criticisms and comments that you make are so asinine, and the absurd amount of time you waste trying to make those asinine points, is what makes people so irrate and attack you.

I think the "FOGS" might take you a little more seriously on here, if you occasionally made a good point--but you never do. Quite honestly, I think this blog would be a lot better off if you stopped commenting.
