A quick note on Burney
Redshirt junior forward Jerome Burney suited up, took part in warm-up drills and sat on the bench in uniform Saturday at Duke, which came as somewhat of a surprise considering the team issued a press release last fall stating that Burney would miss the entire season due to lingering injuries to his right foot.
Burney did not play during yesterday's 21-point loss, and -- judging by Coach Gary Williams's response when asked about Burney's status on today's teleconference -- it does not appear likely that Burney will see any court time the rest of this season.
"He practices with us," Williams said. "He dressed the other day. I mean, he'd be eligible to play, you know, if it worked out that way. But it's probably not going to happen."
Still, the fact that Burney has returned to good enough health to practice with the team is a very positive note for a player who suffered what could have been career-ending injuries to his right foot. Burney, a 6-foot-9, 222-lb. forward, was not healthy enough to participate in team workouts this past fall, so, clearly, progress has been made.
