Burney is dressed and eligible

Maryland redshirt junior forward Jerome Burney is dressed and participating in warm-ups out on the floor at Cameron Indoor. According to a team spokesman, Burney is eligible to play. The 6-foot-9, 222-lb. forward's playing days were thought to have come to an end in the fall, due to recurring foot ailments. Apparently, that is not the case after all.

Burney last played for the Terrapins on Feb. 21, 2009 against North Carolina. But due to two injuries to Burney's right foot, he missed much of last season and was unable to practice with the team during fall workouts. On Oct. 2, Maryland stated that Burney would not play this season and would serve as assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Burney has played in 26 games the past two seasons, averaging 7.4 minutes, 1.5 points and 1.7 rebounds per game.

We could have used Burney today against Serge Zwikker. Maybe he wouldn't have gotten 16 pts and 60 rebounds.

Too angry about Duke game to post much of response to the Burney news, except to say I'm very glad his career might not be over with the Terps. I've always been a big Burney advocate and think he has huge potential. Hope his foot issues are finally healed and hopefully can contribute this year. Lord knows we need front court depth badly.
